Marvel almost had a Ghost Rider spin-off series at Hulu that would've seen the character stay in LA after his introduction in Agents of SHIELD. Now, Gabriel Luna has shed light on the original plans for Ghost Rider until the series was canceled before it even began production.

Ghost Rider was introduced in Marvel's Agents of SHIELD as Robbie Reyes, who was different than the traditional spirit of vengeance from the earlier comic books or movies. Played by Luna, Reyes was a recurring side character in the Agents of SHIELD television show who fans really gravitated to.

This led to the idea of developing a Ghost Rider series for Hulu in which Lilith would serve as the main villain. During an interview with ComicBook.com, Luna said fans would have gotten to see more of the Ghost Rider's backstory, which would have touched on some elements from the comic book source material. Following this, Marvel would be able to introduce the supernatural side of its world to the fan base. Now it seems fans may have to wait much longer for this.

While the Ghost Rider series fell apart after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox and Marvel Television was absorbed by Marvel Studios, the supernatural corner of the comic book world will be explored in different projects. Marvel Studios is bringing Blade to the MCU with Mahershala Ali in the role. In the comics, Blade is a vampire slayer who deals with many villains with supernatural origins.

On Sony's side, the supernatural side of the comics will be explored in the Morbius film. It will introduce a little bit of the element of fear and mystery in a superhero genre that typically is very lighthearted. The cosmic region is currently what's going on now in the MCU. Eternals, Guardians of the Galaxy, Loki, and the long-awaited Fantastic Four will take fans into the far regions of space.

Ghost Rider is too strong of a character not to use, so Marvel Studios would be wise to reintroduce him into the fold at some point down the line. Hopefully, Marvel Studios gets an idea of how they should move when it comes to its fan base later during this ongoing fourth phase. Maybe Ghost Rider can come back through another character's story or movie.

Agents of SHIELD is now available on Disney Plus.
