Sam Fisher's back, but not like Splinter Cell fans may have expected. Earlier today Ubisoft revealed plans for an upcoming event in 2017's Ghost Recon Wildlands featuring none other than Fisher. Only a teaser featuring Sam Fisher and his iconic three-eyed goggles has been shown for now, but fans can expect a full reveal of the event come April 9.

The reveal of the upcoming Ghost Recon Wildlands event came via Ubisoft's various social media channels, each sharing a short teaser video. The voiceover for the video features Sam Fisher's iconic voice actor Michael Ironside discussing a pending mission in Bolivia. Fisher mentions needing "some extra firepower" and requests a call to the Ghosts. Note that Ironside has been rumored to be a part of an unannounced Splinter Cell title currently in development.

The only other hints regarding the event come from the language used in the various social media posts. The Ghost Recon Twitter account says, "When duty calls, he answers." The official Ubisoft account mentions that the Ghosts will be teaming up with "a new partner." And the official title of the YouTube video refers to a special operation named "The Call."

A Splinter Cell cross-over event won't be the first for Ghost Recon Wildlands. Previously the open world shooter has had crossovers tied to the Predator franchise and Ubisoft's own Far Cry 5. Ubisoft is ready and willing to do interesting and fun events for the game, despite it now being over a year old. Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher could be just the first of many familiar faces we'll see in Ghost Recon Wildlands in 2019.

The reveal of the Splinter Cell event comes just days after Ubisoft revealed its plans for the second season of Ghost Recon Wildlands free DLC content. In that reveal, Ubisoft announced that four free special operations would be made available as part of this second season. Special Operation 1 coincidentally drops on April 10 and includes teammate customization and a new  PvP game mode named Sabotage. It's unclear if the Splinter Cell operation is part of this first DLC release or a forthcoming one, but Ghost Recon Wildlands players clearly have a lot to look forward to.

Ghost Recon Wildlands is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
