Ubisoft announced today that the next major expansion for Ghost Recon: Wildlands, dubbed Fallen Ghosts, will be available for Season Pass holders on May 30th. The expansion will provide Ghost Recon: Wildlands players with new missions and a dangerous new enemy.

Fallen Ghosts takes place after the conclusion of the main storyline in Ghost Recon: Wildlands. Now that the Santa Blanca Cartel has been defeated, the Unidad military is working tirelessly to reestablish stability in Bolivia. Despite their best efforts, the Unidad forces are unable to maintain control, and the country is headed toward civil war.

As a last-ditch effort, the Unidad issue a call to arms, asking anyone who’s willing to come to Bolivia and help save the country. One faction that takes up the call is Los Extranjeros, or The Foreigners. Unfortunately for the Ghosts sill in Bolivia, Los Extranjeros are out for blood, and are ready to defeat anyone who stands in their way, including the Ghosts.

Players will experience 15 new missions, either solo or with up to four other players in co-op, as they seek out and rescue the remaining U.S. citizens in Bolivia, while fending off the Unidad and Los Extranjeros forces. Players will take on the four new types of Los Extranjeros enemies: Armored, Elite Snipers, Jammers, and Covert Ops soldiers. Here’s how Ubisoft describes each of the new enemies:

  • Armored: Equipped with heavy bulletproof plates, they are especially threatening in close combat.
  • Elite Sniper: Geared up with an advanced movement detector, these Elite Snipers are able to spot far away targets, and never miss their shot.
  • Jammer: With a jamming antenna directly in their backpack, they are able to neutralize drones and interfere with all electronic equipment.
  • Covert Ops: Equipped with a new prototype cloaking device, that makes them almost invisible, and a powerful crossbow, they give a new meaning to the word “Ghost.”

Players will face off against four new bosses in three regions of Ghost Recon: Wildlands. To amp up the excitement and challenge, Fallen Ghosts will send players into the jungle and swampland, with a retooled weather system.

Fallen Ghosts will start players off with a level 30 character, complete with all skills available at that level. The new Fallen Ghosts campaign will increase the level cap to 35, and introduce nine new unlockable skills, including various physical skills, weapon skills, and drone skills. The new physical skills include oxygen increases so Ghosts can spend more time under water; weapon skills include explosive bolts for a newly introduced crossbow; and drone skills include the ability to turn the drone into a mobile flashbang.

In addition to the new skills, Ubisoft is bringing six new weapons to Ghost Recon: Wildlands with Fallen Ghosts. The weapons will include new assault rifles, sniper rifles, and a crossbow.

To top it off, Ubisoft has tweaked the Advanced and Expert difficulties to offer greater challenge and excitement to those players who like to test themselves. All-in-all, Fallen Ghosts will hopefully provide the kind of experience players were hoping for with Narco Road, but didn’t receive; namely a true expansion to the core Ghost Recon: Wildlands experience, not just new game modes and wild-colored vehicles.

Hopefully the release of Fallen Ghosts also means Ubisoft is one step closer to releasing multiplayer for Ghost Recon: Wildlands. The online competitive mode has been promised, but has yet to see the light of day, with many gamers wondering if and when it will finally arrive. In the meantime, Season Pass holders can jump into Fallen Ghosts at the end of the month.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
