In 2017, inFamous developer Sucker Punch Productions announced Ghost of Tsushima, an open-world PS4 exclusive about a samurai. The game is one of the most hotly anticipated titles coming to the console and was considered one of the best games at E3 2018 thanks to its impressive trailers. However, Sucker Punch still hasn't said when the game is going to be released.

Although Sucker Punch and Sony are keeping quiet about the Ghost of Tsushima release date, a Swedish retailer may have just leaked the info. Spelbutiken.se's listing for the PS4 exclusive stated that the game would be available on August 30, 2019.

Retailers occasionally list placeholder dates for games without official release dates, with the placeholders often reflecting a date at the end of the month. That said, August 30 isn't the last day of the month and it is a Friday, which is when games in the region are released. The retailer has since removed the information from the listing, which some may take as a mistaken post and confirmation that the info was real.

There's no doubt that fans of Sucker Punch are eager for this listing to be correct. Ghost of Tsushima has continued to impress many with its gameplay trailers, which show the protagonist taking part in stunning displays of combat. The game would also be the first release from Sucker Punch in more than five years.

Ghost of Tsushima release date leak 2019

Unfortunately, there are several reasons to doubt Spelbutiken.se's listing. The first being that it also lists release dates for several other games that don't yet have confirmed releases. Death Stranding is listed with a September 20, 2019 release date, but creator Hideo Kojima just confirmed that the game's development is "slightly" behind schedule. This makes the Death Stranding release date unlikely, and so the leaked Ghost of Tshushima release date is unlikely by association.

If Ghost of Tsushima isn't released this year, then some will be wondering if the game skips the PS4 and comes out for Sony's next-gen hardware. Analysts have speculated that Sony will release the PS5 in 2020, and so unless Ghost of Tshushima is released before June 2020 (the potential PS5 announcement date), the game could end up being a PS5 launch title.

That doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing, though, as the high quality of Ghost of Tsushima's graphics on the PS4 Pro has already been a major talking point. Undoubtedly, Sucker Punch fans would be keen to see what the developer could do with the PS5. However, it does mean that they would have to wait a lot longer to play Ghost of Tsushima.

Ghost of Tsushima is currently in development for PS4.
