Finishing a triple-A video game campaign can be quite an undertaking, sometimes taking dozens of hours to complete, and there's a constant stream of new releases tempting players away before they can roll credits. However, last year's PlayStation exclusive Ghost of Tsushima seems like it did a better job than most at keeping players invested, as over 50% of players finished the main story, according to trophy data.

Developed by Sucker Punch, Ghost of Tsushima was one of 2020's best-reviewed game releases and was praised by many for its game design and open world. The game was nominated for many Game Of The Year awards alongside other stand-outs, like Hades, The Last of Us Part 2, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which it clearly deserved based on how many players completed the open-world game.

PlayStation players can see the completion rates for trophies awarded for completing various tasks and achievements in the game. According to these figures, 50.2% of players have got the "Mono No Aware" trophy, which is rewarded upon completion of Ghost of Tsushima's main story, an impressive feat for any game, let alone a new IP. For comparison, only 34.1% of players have received the trophy for finishing Horizon: Zero Dawn's story, another new PlayStation IP with a similar scope and open-world.

Not only are trophies themselves a great way to increase replayability, but the completion rates are also a great way to view player habits and discover which trophies are harder to obtain than others. By looking at the completion percentage for story-based trophies, it is possible to see exactly where players stop playing video games and what events or missions may cause players to put the game down. Like achievements on Xbox, trophies have led to a rise in completionist gamers who aim to experience everything a game has to offer.

With its story completion rate, Ghost of Tsushima joins other PlayStation exclusives like The Last Of Us Part 2, Marvel's Spider-Man, and God Of War, as games with over 50% completion, yet another sign that Sucker Punch's game has the potential to become another one of PlayStation's big IPs, with a Ghost of Tsushima sequel all but guaranteed. The game has continued to endear itself to fans through the release of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, a sizeable free update to the game that added a co-op multiplayer mode and customizable builds.

Ghost of Tsushima is available now on PS4 and PS5.
