Ghost of Tsushima was one of 2020's biggest successes, becoming one of the highest-selling games of the year and the most successful exclusive new IP of the PlayStation 4 generation. With the game launching just four months before the PS5, it's no surprise that Ghost of Tsushima has seen some benefits when playing on Sony's newest hardware. However, a LinkedIn listing from one of the game's creative directors could imply that Ghost of Tsushima may be receiving a full PlayStation 5 upgrade.

Ghost of Tsushima released on PlayStation 4 on July 17, 2020, less than a month after Sony and Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part 2. This was after both games had seen delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however Ghost of Tsushima's delay almost made the game brush up against the release of the PlayStation 5. Regardless, PS5 owners were surprised to learn that playing the game on the system through its backward compatibility function resulted in a major increase in performance, doubling the game's frame rate on both the performance and cinematic visual modes.

While this boost in fluidity may have been enough to satisfy most fans, especially given Ghost of Tsushima was already a beautiful game on PS4, Sucker Punch may not be done with it. Fans of Sucker Punch saw that cinematics video creative director Dave Molloy's LinkedIn page implies Sucker Punch is still working on Ghost of Tsushima for PS5. His page reads, "Presently working on the Ghost of Tsushima game for PS5," leading fans to speculate that Sucker Punch may be working on a version intended to take full advantage of the PS5.

There's tons of potential for how Ghost of Tsushima can take advantage of the PS5 in ways unexplored through backward compatibility. For one, the game's resolution can be increased above 1800p when played in cinematic mode using the PS5's capabilities to deliver a full 2160p picture, perhaps even at 60 FPS. This version could also take advantage of the PlayStation 5's ray-tracing capabilities for lighting. A PS5 version of Ghost of Tsushima could even utilize the DualSense controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, which could play into Ghost of Tsushima's combat in exciting ways.

There doesn't seem to be any indication that Molloy's LinkedIn game has been updated recently, so this could just be a typo. Sucker Punch was likely already implementing the game's existing PS5 enhancements during development of the PS4 version, and Molloy could also be referencing that. Some have also speculated that this is referring to a new title, and while it seems inevitable that Sucker Punch will follow up Ghost of Tsushima's success with a sequel, speculating on one this soon after the original seems unrealistic.

Ghost of Tsushima is now available, exclusively on PS4.
