With Ghost of Tsushima’s launch, the last major PlayStation 4 exclusive will be available for fans to dig into. Thankfully, it seems the various reviews for Ghost of Tsushima make it out to be a title well worth experiencing for many PS4 owners.

Interestingly, it seems that Ghost of Tsushima might have one common function that sets it apart from other major open world titles of the generation. According to an interview with the game's lead engine programmer, it sounds like Tsushima will have incredibly fast loading times for an open world game, even on the base PS4 model.

Sony has had an excellent console generation throughout the PS4’s lifespan, with some of the most well-received first party titles in the company’s history. Fortunately, it looks as if Ghost of Tsushima will end this generation on a positive according to GameRant’s own Ghost of Tsushima reviewTsushima will be Sucker Punch Productions' first major release following Infamous First Light, the standalone DLC for Infamous Second Son.

With reviews already published for the game and Tsushima’s action-packed launch trailer adding to the game’s mounting hype, fans are eager to dig into the game and experience it for themselves. Thankfully, it sounds like Tsushima won’t involve a lot of waiting around on in-game loading screens. According to an interview with Sucker Punch by way of Kotaku, the development team behind Tsushima put in a lot of effort to ensure the game loaded areas fast without compromises the game’s art style or graphical fidelity.

Ghost of Tsushima gets a launch trailer four days early

Sucker Punch’s lead engine programmer Adrian Bentley gave credit to the art team for the fast load times saying, “Our art teams did an amazing job pushing their assets to fit in our aggressive performance and memory budgets. They accomplished a huge amount especially considering the size of our team.” Bentley goes on to give an example of the game’s optimization, saying a 200m x 200m terrain tile set for Tsushima only takes up a measly compressed 2 MB of disc space. The overall size of Tsushima for those players who preloaded the game or will be downloading it after launch is 35.37 GB.

Hopefully the fast loading speeds will make Tshushima just that much more enjoyable to experience. While some fans initially took issue with the fact that the game won’t be historically accurate, Ghost of Tsushima’s black-and-white filter option remains incredibly faithful to this history of samurai cinema made famous by directors like Akira Kurosawa. Whether or not players choose to use the filter throughout the entire game, PS4 owners won’t miss out on Ghost of Tsushima’s many breathtaking environments.

Ghost of Tsushima will be available on July 17, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
