Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima was one of last year's biggest hits. It was well-reviewed by critics, beloved by fans—boasting over a 50% completion rate among players—and managed to pick up awards at most of the major events. Now, a standalone expansion known as Ghost of Ikishima has leaked online. As more information and rumors begin to spread, it appears that Sony has quietly registered a domain for Ghost of Ikishima.

Since the initial leak, fans have been piecing together tidbits of information to attempt to confirm Ghost of Ikishima, with real-life coincidences acting as the primary evidence. The real island of Tsushima is less than 50 miles from a nearby "Iki Island," and the latter is about 1/4 the size of Tsushima, making it the perfect spot to stage an expansion.

Now, ghostofikishima.com has been registered, and it unsurprisingly routes back to the PlayStation 4 section on Sony's official PlayStation website. So, it appears that it's time for fans to start celebrating and preparing for a sequel to one of the best-reviewed games of last year. It's hard to imagine the sequel not being itself a beloved game. After all, despite Ghost of Tsushima's performance, there are still plenty of small improvements that Ghost of Ikishima could make.

Ghost of Ikishima Registered Sony

While details are relatively scarce on the possible sequel, the initial leak of Ghost of Ikishima was accompanied by some interesting details. First, Ghost of Ikishima is suggested to be a standalone experience, meaning that while it is intended to be connected in some way to Ghost of Tsushima, it's not simply an expansion. Second, and perhaps more importantly, a few credible leakers, such as Shpeshal_Nick, suggested that the game was being slated for a 2021 release. With half of the year gone already, this means that fans of Ghost of Tsushima could be in for an exciting reveal sooner rather than later.

Even though the domain registry would appear to more or less confirm Ghost of Ikishima, fans are awaiting the rumored PlayStation State of Play, expected in July, for official confirmation. Like Ghost of Ikishima itself, the July 8 State of Play is shrouded in mystery. It, too, has not been officially confirmed, but fans are anticipating news about Ghost of Ikishima, Death Stranding: Director's Cut, and God of War: Ragnarok. With Sony being conspicuously missing from E3 for the third year in a row, PlayStation fans feel it is increasingly likely that an event is coming from Sony soon.

Ghost of Ikishima is rumored to be in development.
