Digital distribution platform GOG is giving away free copies of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to players who already own the game on any other platform, including consoles. Players can only claim the copy through GOG Galaxy 2.0 until June 23rd, so those who are looking to go cross-platform, or simply hoping to pick up a DRM free edition of The Witcher 3, should act quickly.

Players can easily claim their free copy by downloading the GOG Galaxy 2.0 client and connecting their accounts to the other platform where they originally purchased The Witcher 3. For console players, in particular, this is an excellent opportunity to revisit the Northern Realms to check out the game's stellar collection of mods, including the recently released The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project that brings 4K textures and models to Geralt and co.

The game's cross-platform save feature also enables players to pick up right where they left off, allowing them to easily tie up loose ends like taking on lingering contracts, finding missing Gwent cards, and finishing treasure hunts left unfinished the first time around, though not all platforms are compatible. Even those who have played through the main story once before will find something new to enjoy on repeat playthroughs, thanks to The Witcher 3's breadth of moral dilemmas and richly realized alternate endings.

Originally released in 2015, The Witcher 3 is a landmark title, boasting record-shattering sales and near-unparalleled critical acclaim. The Witcher 3 never truly faded from public discussion, but it has enjoyed renewed interest thanks to Netflix's adaptation of the novels, despite the game series' significant departures from author Andrezej Sapkowski's source material. Henry Cavill, who portrays Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's show, campaigned for the role based on his fondness for the property and has put in an impressive amount of playtime into the title.

Polish developer CD Projekt Red's next saga is just around the corner. Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most anticipated titles to release in 2020 — thanks in large part to The Witcher 3's legacy.

The Witcher 3 is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and prior owners can freely download the title from GOG until June 23rd, 12 pm BST.
