Many FromSoftware fans were ecstatic to hear that George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones, would be working on Elden Ring's worldbuilding. The famed author has now commented on the success of Elden Ring on his blog, and seems to be over the moon about the game's high review scores.

Elden Ring released last week and was received extraordinarily well by both players and critics alike. In fact, Elden Ring is now one of the highest-rated games ever made. The title is currently sitting 15th on the list of the best reviewed games of all time, which is something that Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware are most likely exceptionally proud of. Elden Ring released in a busy window, but was still able to shine despite its tough competition in Horizon Forbidden West and Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

George R.R. Martin has now commented on all the praise Elden Ring has been receiving. The writer was brought on to develop the game's worldbuilding and has stated that the acclaim that Elden Ring has received thus far is music to his ears. Martin also noted that almost all of the credit for the game's success should go to Elden Ring's creator, Hidetaka Miyazaki, and his team at FromSoftware.

Before the game released, Miyazaki stated that George R.R. Martin may have been shocked by what FromSoftware had done to his Elden Ring characters. The author seemingly designed characters and personalities in the game's lore before The Shattering took place, then FromSoftware took over and made these heroes into twisted boss monsters. While Martin made no mention of this in his blog post, he did note that he was honored to have met and worked with Miyazaki and the FromSoftware team.

Fans and critics don't seem to be the only people enjoying the game, as Twitch viewers also seem to be loving Elden Ring. The game had reached just over 900,000 viewers a few days after its release, which meant that Elden Ring had the highest peak Twitch viewership count out of all the FromSoftware games that released before it.

While the praise for the game's story, mechanics, and open world was certainly deserved, Elden Ring had a mixed review score on Steam due to its performance issues. Since then, Bandai Namco has released multiple patches to improve Elden Ring's performance, which has improved the games review score on Steam to "Mostly Positive".

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
