A Geoguessr player has recently made a startling discovery while playing a round of the game, as the Google Street Car appears to have hit a pedestrian. While the game was designed to help improve geographic knowledge, it is also possible to come across some pretty weird and unexpected things while playing.
Geoguessr is an online game in which players must guess the location of a random Google Street View image. The goal of the game is to approximate where the picture was taken by placing a pin on a world map. The closer the pin is to the actual real-world location, the more points that are earned. Geoguessr has grown in popularity over time, as it is a fun and engaging way for players to explore the world without leaving the comfort of their homes. Geoguessr also offers a Map Maker tool that allows creative players to create custom locations and share them with others.
Recently, a clip has been circulating on Twitch, in which a streamer known as polispol1 was surprised to find out that the Google Street Car, which captures images for Google Street View, had hit a biker. The impact appears to have been pretty violent as the cyclist flipped over as though he were performing a somersault. The unfortunate impact also caused the cyclist’s helmet to fly off his head in a dramatic fashion. The incident took place in the Tambacounda Region of Senegal.
It is unclear from the images which party was at fault here, though hopefully the victim survived without any severe injuries. Even though there are over 170 billion Street View images from 87 different countries, it is weird to think that the image was kept online, as apparently the image was captured on December 2021. One would assume that the driver would report the accident and the photos would be promptly removed.
It seems like one can find a lot of weird images while playing Geoguessr. While Google's vehicles are designed to take high-quality pictures of the roads and landscapes, they also inevitably capture some surprising and peculiar sights. Regardless of how they got there, the weird and unusual images in Geoguessr can add an extra layer of excitement and intrigue to the game. They can also serve as a reminder of the vastness and unpredictability of the world, as well as the limitless opportunities for adventure and discovery that are right outside our door.
