Genshin Impact's highly-anticipated Inazuma update earlier this year saw a horde of new characters introduced to the game as the breakout hit RPG officially added the first new major region following its September 2020 launch. Between long-awaited characters like Kamisato Ayaka and massively successful additions to the game's roster like Raiden Shogun, miHoYo has been hard at work adding many of the major members of Inazuma's starring cast over the months since the 2.0 update. Now, the Chinese developer has officially confirmed the long-awaited addition of a central character to the region's plot.

Genshin Impact's Inazuma region has so far featured some of the most popular characters since the game's initial release. The region's stalwart leader, Raiden Shogun, set records for Genshin's character releases and the character's incredible damage output left a major impact on Genshin's meta-game. Now, Genshin Impact has officially confirmed the upcoming release of the head shrine maiden of Inazuma's Grand Narukami Shrine, the long-awaited Yae Miko.

In line with the developer's tradition, Genshin Impact officially revealed Yae Miko Friday morning through the game's official Twitter account. Introduced as the head shrine maiden at Inazuma's largest shrine and the editor-in-chief of Inazuma City's Yae Publishing House, the reveal likely confirms Yae Miko's release as coming in Genshin Impact's 2.5 update. Yae Miko has been subject to several leaks in recent weeks with information on her gameplay, constellations, and ascension materials surfacing in the weeks leading up to her official reveal.

Yae Miko has quickly become a fan favorite among Genshin Impact players for the major role she plays in the story of the Inazuma region. Yae Miko is one of the first confidants the player interacts with in the Japan-inspired region and helps the Traveler to prepare for the ultimate battle against the intimidating Raiden Shogun. Previous leaks had placed Yae Miko's release date as expected for 2.5 and the reveal from miHoYo's Twitter account likely confirms these leaks, with similar Tweets posted at the start of the patch preceding a character's launch.

Yae Miko's confirmation comes alongside a suite of other characters, both leaked and featured within the game's story, that fans of Genshin Impact have been requesting for months. The Fatui harbinger Scaramouche has seen significant popularity among Genshin players for his role in both the "Unreconciled Stars" event early in the game's life, as well as the main story of Inazuma. Liyue's Yaoyao has also been a frequently discussed unconfirmed character within the fanbase, likely serving as the first Dendro character in Genshin Impact. Genshin's wide cast has become one of its most popular elements and Yae Miko's release will be sure to excite many of the game's legion of fans.

Genshin Impact is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is currently in development.
