Genshin Impact players will need to make wishes in order to unlock new characters, but the game isn't entirely clear on how to go about getting more wishes. Players will make their first wish when they first reach the library, but beyond that they will need to buy more of them with in game currency.
Thankfully, the in game currency required doesn't have to be purchased with real money, so players can unlock Genshin Impact characters through wishes without paying a dime. Instead, it will require a good deal of grinding through missions, daily quests, and treasure chests, but it's well worth it to get a character the player likes.
Still, the menu where players can purchase and make wishes is a bit confusing, as there are three different types of currency involved in the process. Players will need to use a combination of Primogems, Acquaint Fates, and Intertwined Fates in order to make their wish depending on which event they are wishing on. Getting these currencies is easier and more fun when playing Genshin Impact with friends.
Primogems are a common currency within the game and can be obtained by completing quests, doing daily challenges, and opening chests. As Genshin Impact is free to play, they can be purchased with real money as well, but this isn't required to make wishes. After amassing enough Primogems, players can spend them in the Shop under the Paimon's Bargains section. Here Primogems can be traded in for Acquaint Fates and Intertwined Fates, the currency that players will actually use to purchase the wishes. These two currencies are equal in cost but allow the player to wish on different events.
Additionally, players should take note of the costs for each event. After picking the event that the player wants to wish on, be sure to check which currency it uses and consider saving up for ten wishes at once. Bundling and getting all ten wishes at once will sometimes gives the player a slight discount, making the overall cost efficiency higher. This is by no means a quick process, as saving up the Primogems for enough Fates can take a lot of time, but it's by far the best way for players to unlock new characters and get better gear. It's important to note that Genshin Impact can be played without microtransactions in its entirety
Making wishes will be vital to player's experiences within Genshin Impact, so it's worth taking the time to understand these forms of currency. Acquaint Fates and Intertwined Fates can also be purchased with Starglitter and Stardust, so players with an excess of those may consider going that route instead, and PS4 players that bought Genshin Impact's Starter Pack will start with a few of these Fates.
