The former Electro Archon, Raiden Makoto has a lot of importance for the events of Genshin Impact. With a kind demeanor, there's a lot to Makoto hiding just under the surface. Here is everything that Genshin Impact players need to know about Inazuma's former Archon.

Who Is Makoto?

The former Electro Archon, Raiden Makoto is the twin sister of Raiden Ei. Compared to Ei’s more stressed personality, Makoto was known as a calm and peaceful goddess.

In this way, the two have a very balanced dynamic. Ei was a martial artist, while Makoto focused on more diplomatic pursuits. Ei worked as Makoto’s general during her reign. Nonetheless, the two were very close; Makoto’s death was a major factor in Ei’s isolation in the Plane of Euthymia.

Makoto And The Cataclysm

Inazuma brought more information on the Cataclysm than any of the regions before it. Among the facts, fans learned about Raiden Makoto’s contribution to the event- Raiden Makoto died during the Cataclysm in Khaenri’ah.

It was announced during the Raiden Shogun’s second story quest that Makoto was a peace-loving goddess with a strong sense of responsibility. However, due to this sense of responsibility, Makoto could not deny going to Khaenri’ah during the Cataclysm. Leaving Ei in Inazuma, it was too late for the sister- Makoto died in Ei’s arms.

Raiden Makoto And Eternity

As natural opposites, the current Raiden Shogun and Makoto also notable differed in terms of their Archon ideal. Raiden Ei, the current Electro Archon, believes in unchanging eternity. As such, she believes that Inazuma should remain the same forever, to preserve the country and people she holds dear.

On the other hand, Makoto believed in just the opposite- a full embracement of change. In Makoto’s eyes, life is best defined by fleeting moments and experiences. At the current moment, Raiden Ei continues to disagree with this view, saying it is one of the biggest traits about her sister she could not understand.

Makoto And The Sacred Sakura

Located at the Grand Narukami Shrine, one of the most breathtaking places in all of Inazuma, the Sacred Sakura plays an important role in the plot of Genshin Impact. However, what many players do not realize is the tree’s connection with the former Archon, Makoto.

The Sacred Sakura grew from a seed given to Ei by Makoto, back well before the events of the Cataclysm. Though the details are a little complicated, the Sacred Sakura was meant to help Ei transition into the role of Electro Archon. In this way, the Sacred Sakura ensured the tranquility of Inazuma using its powers, all while Raiden Ei grew stronger- a plan that the current Raiden Shogun believes was intentional between Makoto and the God of Time, Istaroth.

Genshin Impact is available on mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is currently in development.
