New character reveals in Genshin Impact are always an exciting event, but this is even more true when it comes to the playable Archons. Each of Teyvat's seven regions is ruled by an Archon, a godly being representing one of the game's seven primary elements. So far, two of these gods have actually been playable characters, those being Venti and Zhongli. These characters are mortal representations of the Archons themselves, Barbados and Morax respectively. Now a third playable Archon is coming to the game, as players now have the chance to get Raiden Shogun, the mortal form of the Electro Archon Baal.

As one might expect from one of Genshin Impact's deities, Raiden Shogun is incredibly powerful both in terms of lore and gameplay, but not in the way that many might have expected. She wields polearm weapons and utilizes the power of Electro to deal swift death to her enemies, and plays as a sort of burst DPS and support mix.

The trailer below showcases Raiden Shogun and what players can expect from her character. It starts off with a bit of lore about her, explaining that the people of Inazuma idolize her as the embodiment of eternal thunder and radiance. She lives up to this name, as she is singular in her quest for eternity. It's also revealed that Raiden Shogun originated the art of using both swords and polearms that Inazumans are known for, and this translates into gameplay in an interesting way. While she uses a polearm for her weapon in most cases, using her Elemental Burst will allow her to switch weapons to the Musou Shinsetsu, a brilliant sword made of pure lightning.

Raiden Shogun's entire kit revolves around Elemental Bursts, and not just her own, but those of her teammates as well. As nearby team members use their Elemental Bursts, she will gain charges to unleash a powerful attack of her own. After doing this, she drastically increases the rate at which teammates gain energy, allowing for more Elemental Bursts to be thrown out. Aside from increasing the frequency of these powerful attacks, Raiden Shogun can also make them more powerful, resulting in some devastating combos.

Raiden Shogun may be a Goddess, but that doesn't mean she can't make mistakes. The end of the trailer hints at these fatal errors that this Archon has made, and makes it very clear that the Traveler is going to get wrapped up in things as a result.

Genshin Impact is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5, and is in development for Switch.
