Genshin Impact, the Chinese free-to-play ARPG developed by miHoYo, has been one of the biggest surprise successes of 2020. The game originally received a lot of press due to comparisons with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but as the released product has become more popular it even turned out to be one of the most-searched games of 2020 on Google. The game's growing fanbase has led to a number of interesting statistics, and the official Genshin Impact Twitter shared some of them today.

In late November, miHoYo released the first "Teyvat Times" on social media; a sort of newsletter-formatted stat sheet chronicling "interesting things happening" in the expanding open-world of Teyvat. The second issue released on December 9, providing fans of the game with funny back-end knowledge such as one player having died by falling 28 times per day on average. It also revealed that 652 Travelers had been killed by Boars, though over four million Boars on average were hunted daily.

The third issue of the Teyvat Times includes similar statistics for fans of Genshin Impact to enjoy. It leads off by talking about one player who took 77 attempts to defeat an Oceanid, as well as another who gave up after 125 unsuccessful attempts. Many other stats are included, such as over 162,000 players finding the same island, or players having collectively forged over 18 million weapons - with the Prototype Archaic being the most popular.

The biggest and arguably most impressive individual statistics listed involve how many small enemies players have bested. Travelers have defeated over 14.4 billion Slimes and over 17.2 billion Hilichurls, according to Genshin Impact's Twitter post, which is even more impressive when one considers the game only just released on September 28, 2020.

Though it has only been around for a few months, Genshin Impact has continuously expanded its scope for those who are sticking by it. The game is a gacha title, and has released new characters and weapons for players to try and collect. However, Genshin Impact has also released the new region Dragonspine in its Version 1.2 update, and there have been limited-time events such as Unreconciled Stars to take part in.

That being said, the developer's interactions with players outside the confides of the game has been just as interesting considering Genshin Impact's scope. While fans can get enjoyment out of something as simple as fun facts released through the Teyvat Times, miHoYo has also hosted events like a Primogem raffle to celebrate Genshin Impact's YouTube account garnering over one million subscribers.

Genshin Impact is available now on the App Store, Google Play, PC, and PS4, and is currently in development for PS5 and Switch.
