The Teapot in Genshin Impact was first introduced in the 1.5 update. Also referred to as the Serenitea Pot or the Realm Within, this special item allows players to design a small world with different buildings, decorations, and other such furnishings. It’s also possible to invite other players into the Teapot.

As a Gadget-type item, the Serenitea Pot is non-consumable and is primarily used to access the player’s home. Since its release in update 1.5, it’s also been tweaked a few times. Most notably, the developers of Genshin Impact added new furnishing models and improved the system’s overall interface.

The Lore Behind Genshin Impact’s Teapot

What’s known about the Serenitea Pot comes from the quest “A Teapot to Call Home: Part I.” To unlock this quest, players must first complete “A New Star Approaches,” which is the third act of Liyue’s set of Archon Quests, and be at least Adventure Rank 30. After, the quest will appear in the player’s log and direct the Traveler to Madame Ping.

Talking to Madame Ping reveals much about the nature of the strange teapot and how it can house its own mini-world. For one, Madame Ping’s adeptal lineage grants her magical abilities that normal humans don’t usually possess, and one such ability she has is known as Sub-Space Creation. In the quest, the elderly adeptus explains that Sub-Space Creation allows her to create a small, autonomous pocket world. While this may seem like a laudable feat, Madame Ping also says that it’s nothing compared to what the Archon of Liyue was capable of, hinting that Sub-Space Creation is what many adepti would consider easy.

Regardless, Madame Ping offers the Traveler a trinket with its own pocket world. This trinket is the Serenitea Pot. Though Madame Ping’s dialogue suggests that different items can serve as a “trinket” for housing a mini-world. She also reveals that Sub-Space Creation requires a number of rare items. These include Shimmersoil from Dihua Marsh and Smaragdus Jadeite from the rock of The Chasm, among others.

To complete the quest, the Traveler simply follows Yanfei as she acquires the rare ore, Smaragdus Jadeite, through legal means. After, players can return to Madame Ping and claim their new home - though there’s one last interesting piece of information at the end of the quest. As Madame Ping hands the traveler their Serenitea Pot, they caution them to be careful because if they were to drop it, she was unsure of what might happen. It would seem some form of magic or energy is keeping the pocket world stable within the trinket, but damaging it may lead to troublesome repercussions.

With the Serenitea Pot now in the Traveler’s possession, players can customize it as they please with help from Tubby, the adeptus residing there. Tubby, otherwise known as “Rain Calmer,” never seems to leave the player’s pocket world and remains there solely to assist the Traveler with furnishing the space. Even so, she seems very knowledgeable, possessing much knowledge about Sub-Space Creation and adepti, in general. Chubby is another adeptus that only appears in the Traveler’s Serenitea Pot on certain days, offering rare items.

Should the player design their pocket world with different furnishings, their Trust Rank will increase, granting them different rewards. It will also change Tubby’s appearance and dialogue, highlighting how the adeptus is happy to assist the Traveler and even willing to open up about Liyue’s past.

So far, this is all the lore that’s been revealed about the Serenitea Pot and its inhabitants. Overall, Sub-Space Creation and its resulting pocket worlds make for interesting additions to the lore of Genshin Impact. These also provide plenty of material that could be utilized in future content. Though until then, players can simply design their mini-world and relax.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5 with a Switch version in development.
