Genshin Impact's Teyvat is a complex world, built on the intricate cultures of its seven countries and their gods. So far, the story has taken fans to the City of Freedom, Mondstadt, the Land of Contracts, Liyue, and the game's newest addition, the Nation of Eternity, Inazuma. However, all of this excitement has left Genshin Impact fans wondering — what's next in the game's roster of countries.

The next nation in Genshin Impact will be Sumeru. The home of the God of Wisdom and Dendro, the nation will be driven by knowledge and academia. However, though the concept seems straightforward throughout the story so far, in reality, Sumeru will be one of the most complex countries so far.

Updated July 12, 2022, by Scott Vengel: There has been a treasure trove of information on Sumeru over the last month based on a handful of leaks from reliable members of Genshin Impact community. Loving fans of the game series have given more insight into the location of Sumeru, as well as many of the characters set for release like Kusanali, Tighnari, and manga-favorite Collei. As such, in recognition of the efforts of these leakers, this article has been updated to include rumored and confirmed information on the region.

8 Home Of The God Of Wisdom

Each nation in Genshin Impact centers around its own respective Archon and its divine ideal: freedom, order, eternity, etc. In the case of Sumeru, the God of Wisdom rules in the pursuit of all knowledge. In this effort, the nation has developed to consist of a society run by logic and wisdom, with most people involved in the academic affairs of the country.

In addition, each nation favors a particular element that the Archon originates from. Sumeru follows the lead of the Dendro Archon, whose powers create life from the desert around them. As such, players can expect a flowery and plant-filled environment when they enter the nation.

Since the original release of Inazuma, more information has been release surrounding the character of Kusanali, the Dendro Archon. According to leaks released by the community of the characters model, as well as in-game information from characters like Yae Miko, the Dendro Archon takes the form of a small child (likely due to her young age compared to other Archons). While little is known about her role in the story and her abilities, fans also rumor that Kusanali also goes by the name Nahida. Interestingly, neither Kusanali nor Nahida have origins in demonology, like all prior Archons, which may suggest that Kusanali will receive a third name during the events in Sumeru.

7 Sumeru Is Based On South Asia

One thing that makes Teyvat so relatable is its nation's influences from real-world locations. Mondstadt is based on Germany, Liyue on China, and Inazuma on Edo-period Japan. On the other hand, Sumeru will be a melting pot of different South Asian and Middle Eastern influences.

Largely, Sumeru's geography will be influenced by these connections, with it consisting of a mix of rainforests and deserts. In addition, the region will be heavily influenced by Zoroastrianism, especially in the context of the Sumeru Academia.

As for the nation's location, it will likely border Liyue to the southwest, on the other side of the Chasm (much like Mondstadt and Liyue sandwiching Dragonspine). This heavily mimics the geography of real-world China and India, and give the location, can be expected to have a climate situation more similar to Liyue than Inazuma or Mondstadt.

6 Sumeru's Academia

Like every nation before it, Sumeru's plot will be driven by the action of its main institution. In this case, the Sumeru Academia will play a large part, with most NPCs from the nation being researchers from the college.

Quite a few prominent people come from the ranks of the Academia in Sumeru, especially NPCs like Vahid and Alrani. Other characters in the story so far have experienced the institution as well, including Lisa from the Knights of Favonius and the Fatui Harbinger Dottore. Both eventually left due to the paranoia of the organization, Lisa being the most distinguished academic in the past two centuries.

5 Sumeru's Relationship With The Cataclysm

There is a lot of speculation that Sumeru will have some type of connection with the Cataclysm, one of two major ancient events to occur before the start of the story. The prominent theory among Genshin Impact fans is that the previous Archon helped to start the Cataclysm that destroyed Khaenri'ah.

While the extent of the relationship is unknown, it is known that Sumeru's previous Archon was slain in the Cataclysm. However, whether this slaying was the cause of the event, or if it was a product of the Cataclysm, remains a mystery.

4 Sumeru Is Home To The Eremite

Even nation in Genshin Impact's Teyvat has some form of policing force to keep order: the Knights of Favonius in Mondstadt, the Millelith in Liyue, and the Doushin in Inazuma. In Sumeru, these forces could potentially be known as the Eremite, a group of mercenaries that seemingly works both domestically and abroad.

So far, the Eremite is only largely mentioned by Sumida, as a potential means to explore Tsurumi Island for her novel (also listing organizations like the Adventurers' Guild and the Doushin). Given the hazardous environment of the fog-covered island, the Eremite will likely have similar skills to those of the Adventurers' Guild.

That said, there are also rumors about a more negative nature surrounding the group, with some potential leaks suggesting that they will be an overworld enemy rather than a friend of the Traveler. Only time can tell, but there is the potential that the Eremite take the form of a group similar to the Treasure Hunters, rather than the Millelith or Doushin.

3 The Sabzeruz Festival

So far, Genshin Impact players have enjoyed seasonal festivities in both Mondstadt and Liyue: the Windblume Festival and the Lantern Rite Festival, respectively. And while players wait for these types of festivals in Inazuma, Sumeru already has a confirmed festival: the Sabzeruz Festival.

The Sabzeruz Festival was first mentioned by Sayid during the Windblume Festival, saying that the Mondstadt Festival looked a little like the one he remembered in Sumeru. Little is known about the festival, but it is known that it was created to celebrate the birth of the Lesser Lord Kusanali (who is believed to be the current Dendro Archon.)

2 Fatui In Sumeru

Though there is not much information in-game on the topic, many fans in the Genshin Impact community question the type of role that the Fatui will play in the game's third act. As one of two main antagonistic organizations, the Fatui play a role in each act (as does the Abyss Order) — for Sumeru, many fans suggest that the answer lies in the game's manga.

During the events of the manga, readers follow the story of Collei, a "cursed" child that escaped from human experimentation in Sumeru. These experiments seem to be run by the Fatui, likely under the guidance of El Dottore, and many speculate that this may be the focal point for the plot during Act Three. Likewise, it currently seems likely that El Dottore will appear in the nation as the act's main antagonist, having a history with the nation as a student and being one of the only other Fatui Harbingers mentioned in-game (similar to Scaramouche in Inazuma).

1 Known Characters From Sumeru

Genshin Impact Collei and Tighnari Leaked Splash Art

The manga is an all-around good source of information, from character ages to an explanation of important historical events. However, in addition to these facts, the Genshin Impact manga has also been one of the best sources of information on Sumeru. For one, the manga introduces two potentially important characters from Sumeru: Cyno and Collei.

Cyno is the mentor of Lisa from Mondstadt, who was called to Mondstadt to deal with Collei's curse. An incredibly wise character, Cyno is likely to be important to the story events in Sumeru, given that he also appears in the Travail trailers Sumeru portion. Collei, meanwhile, was a subject of Fatui testing in Sumeru that traveled to Mondstadt with a deadly curse. After removing the curse, she decided to travel to Sumeru with Cyno. Both characters are likely to make an appearance in the Sumeru arc of Genshin Impact.

In addition, there are quite a few rumors about other characters that may be included in Version 3.0, based on a wide variety of leaks from the Genshin Impact community. Some of these characters include the nation's Archon, Kusanali (also supposedly called Nahida), as well as the following:

  • Al-Haitham
  • Dehya
  • Tighnari
  • Nilou
  • Dori
