Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse confirmed version 3.1 expands the Sumeru region with a vast new desert area for players to discover. The new update for Genshin Impact builds off of the version 3.0 update, which introduced Sumeru, Dendro Vision bearers, and Dendro elemental reactions.

HoYoverse revealed Genshin Impact version 3.1 launches September 28 with the highly anticipated desert expansion. The harsh desert of Sumeru is home to the Mausoleum of King Deshret, which pays tribute to a legendary Sumeru commander and king. Players will explore the desert, the Mausoleum, and dungeons full of puzzles and mechanical defenders. Many ruins and curiosities await in desert ruins powered by technology from an ancient Sumeru civilization. In Genshin Impact version 3.1, players may also travel to Aaru Village, the largest settlement of desert people in Sumeru and a safe haven for exiled scholars originally from the Akademiya.

Genshin Impact version 3.1 continues the main Archon story with multiple factions and Fatui to appear. Fatui Harbinger Scaramouche makes his return accompanied by Il Dottore, and the two Fatui antagonists are expected to play a major role within the Sumeru desert. Fortunately, three new allies will debut in the update to aid players in their quest: Nilou, Candace, and Cyno. Players will be able to summon the new characters through new event wishes, and reruns of Venti and Albedo event wishes will also appear. The version 3.1 trailer provides an overview of all the new and returning characters coming soon to Genshin Impact.

Players may also take a trip back to Mondstadt to celebrate the annual Weinlesefest, a festival celebrating the Anemo Archon Barbatos and wine. At Weinlesefest, the Traveler will reconnect with old friends from Mondstadt and help Razor uncover more about his past. New mini-games, seasonal events, and rewards will also be available during Weinlesefest in Mondstadt.

Version 3.1 appears to be one of the most content-rich updates yet for Genshin Impact. Although the Genshin Impact update schedule has shifted slightly, the developers will not compromise on delivering worthwhile content for all players. The Sumeru desert will expand upon the lore of the region while continuing to elaborate on the threat the Fatui Harbingers present in the main story.

Genshin Impact version 3.2 and beyond are expected to expand the Sumeru region even further. HoYoverse will likely share more news about the upcoming updates following the release of Genshin Impact version 3.1.

Genshin Impact is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. A Nintendo Switch version is in development.
