Genshin Impact has a lot of different types of currencies, so players would be forgiven if they happen to mix these up occasionally. Between Primogems, Star Glitter, Stardust, Fates, and more, it's a lot to keep track of. Star Glitter in particular is a strange resource, as the method of acquiring it isn't entirely obvious at first.

Within Genshin Impactplayers will need to make wishes in order to unlock new characters and get powerful pieces of equipment. Normally, this is done by spending Acquaint Fates or Intertwined Fates, but Star Glitter offers an alternative way for players to accomplish this.

There are three major uses for Star Glitter, but players should really prioritize the first two. Star Glitter can be used to purchase specific characters outright (costs 50 Star Glitter), purchase Acquaint or Intertwined Fates (7 Star Glitter per Fate), or buy equipment and upgrade materials (35 and 3 Star Glitter respectively). It's best to use this resource for unlocking characters or getting more wishes.

In order to get Star Glitter, players must use Fates to make a wish in Genshin Impact. If the player happens to get a character that they already own, they will instead be awarded with Masterless Star Glitter. The amount varies depending on the rarity of the duplicate and the number of times the player has received that duplicate, but as a general rule players will get more Star Glitter the higher the rarity. Getting a 4 star duplicate will award the player 2 Star Glitter normally and 5 Star Glitter after the eighth duplicate, while getting a 5 star duplicate will award the player 10 Star Glitter and 25 Star Glitter after the eighth duplicate.

Because obtaining this material is basically out of the player's control, it is best to not stress too much about this resource. Over time as the player makes wishes to unlock characters, Star Glitter will inevitably build up. This is a great way to unlock a specific character that the player can't seem to get from the random wish or to recycle some duplicate draws back into more wishes, so it's good to have on hand as they explore Genshin Impact's open world.

As previously mentioned, it's in players' best interest not to spend Star Glitter on equipment or upgrade materials, as there are much better ways to obtain those kinds of items. Hopefully having a better understanding of Star Glitter will help players progress faster and be competitive when playing Genshin Impact with friends.

Genshin Impact is available now on Mobile, PC, and PS5, and later on Switch.
