Since its release, Genshin Impact has been pulling in millions of gamers into its ever-growing community. Part of its popularity stems from its huge roster of well-designed and fun-to-play characters. Though since miHoYo continues to add more four and five-star characters to the roster, it might be time to rethink the game’s standard banner.

Genshin Impact’s gacha system involves making a Wish on any available banner. Generally, there are three types of banners: The standard one (Wanderlust Invocation), the weapon banner (Epitome Invocation), and limited-time character banners. For a long time, the standard banner has featured the same set of five-star characters — Diluc, Jean, Keqing, Mona, and Qiqi.

Tweaking Genshin Impact’s Standard Banner

Pulling for certain characters can prove difficult for many players, especially since a majority of them are only available on limited-time banners. Given this, changing up the standard banner seems like the ideal course of action to make older five-star characters more accessible. There are multiple ways miHoYo could do this.

One option is to include some of the older five-star characters to the standard banner. Characters like Albedo and Klee, who were released in 2020, could be good choices for this. That said, adding more characters to the standard banner — especially five-star ones — makes it even more difficult for players to get the one they were aiming for, as it increases the number of variables per pull.

In this regard, Redditor RydenReckless suggests implementing a mechanic similar to the Epitomized Path found in the weapon banner. This feature would allow players to pinpoint the character (or weapon) that they want. Should the player acquire a five-star character or weapon that is not the one they chose with the Epitomized Path feature, they will gain a Fate Point. Upon acquiring two Fate Points, then the player’s next five-star pull will guarantee their choice.

Many Redditors thought that this was a good idea, with some sharing that they’ve been pulling from the standard banner for a while but have yet to get their five-star character of choice. Generally, the people in the thread seem convinced that an Epitomized Path feature would boost the standard banner’s appeal. However, one Redditor pointed out that adding old five-stars to the standard banner may not be possible.

According to Redditor GreeneValley, many five-star characters featured on limited-time banners have a disclaimer in their event description: “Of the above characters, the event-exclusive character will not be available in the standard wish Wanderlust Invocation.” The Redditor then says that it’s unlikely miHoYo will go back on this so as not to offend the game’s primary paying customers.

If that’s the case, then it seems the standard banner won’t be seeing any five-star additions anytime soon. On the other hand, the Epitomized Path feature is something miHoYo should seriously consider, as it’s especially useful for players still looking to get fan-favorites like Jean and Diluc.

However, recently miHoYo has been releasing two limited-time character banners per update. It started last year, when two limited-time banners went up — one for Albedo and the other for Eula — and continues to the most recent banners, which feature Shenhe and Xiao, respectively. While this may not be a fix for the rather outdated standard banner, it’s still a positive change.

At the end of the day, the community will have to wait and see how the developers plan to work with Genshin Impact’s growing number of characters. With the new region of Sumeru, land of the Dendro Archon, expected to release soon, players are hoping for balanced banners, with new character features and reruns alike. Changing up the game’s standard banner is an excellent way to achieve this balance, but it doesn’t seem like miHoYo plans on adding to Wanderlust Invocation anytime soon — though it should.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5 with a Switch version in development.
