Those hanging around the online communities of Genshin Impact have no doubt heard of the Spiral Abyss, but it isn't entirely clear how players can go about unlocking that area. This is a multistep process that has a few prerequisites as well, so players won't be able to enter the Spiral Abyss for a good few hours into the game and get their Adventure Rank up.

The Spiral Abyss is a repeatable Abyssal Domain in Genshin Impact that provides players with great rewards and ever increasing challenges as they descend further down. This domain is a lot of fun, but players first need to jump through some hoops before accessing it.

The first thing to keep in mind is that players must be Adventure Rank 20 in order to enter the Spiral Abyss. The entrance to the domain can be found before then, but there's no point in doing so as the player won't be able to enter. Players wanting to level up fast in Genshin Impact should focus on daily commissions and spending Original Resin on dungeons or ley lines.

Genshin Impact traveller in wormhole

After reaching Adventure Rank 20, players should head to the southeastern area of Mondstadt called Cape Oath. Here players will notice a large wormhole floating in the sky, as well as a stone platform underneath it with three Seelie statues. In the surrounding areas, three seelies can be found encircled by enemies. Players need to defeat these enemies and guide the Seelie back to its statue. Do this all three times and a wind current will appear in the large stone circle.

This wind current lets the player glide up to the wormhole and enter it, but before doing that players should be sure to grab the chest located behind the wormhole in a wind barrier. After travelling through, players will find themselves at Musk Reef, a location out in the middle of the ocean that was previously not reachable. Enter the door here to access the Spiral Abyss. Again, players must be Adventure Rank 20 in order to enter, and would do well to have decently leveled and equipped characters at their disposal before challenging the Spiral Abyss.

It's worth saying that Musk Reef can also be reached another way, though this is much more tedious and completely pointless given that the aforementioned method exists. Stubborn players that are against using the wormhole could instead opt to use Kaeya's ice powers to freeze the water and make a path to Musk Reef, but those that have done this claim it took hours to do. Finally, Musk Reef is a great source of White Iron Chunks for players wanting to upgrade their weapons.

Genshin Impact is available now on Mobile, PC, and PS4, and later on Switch.
