The open-world adventure game Genshin Impact will soon be testing a pre-installation function, which will be available to both mobile and PC players. The testing phase will roll out next month, but the way the process works will be different depending on the platform.

With the introduction of pre-installation for Genshin Impact, players will have a more convenient way to download updates that will let them jump into the game faster. The pre-installation function for the Version 1.3 update will begin on February 1, 2021, but there are some things to note. PC players will still be able to play the game while pre-installing the game resources, but mobile players will not. It's recommended that those on mobile platforms find a good stopping point before starting the process.

To begin testing the new function, PC players will need to update the game's launcher. After this is done, a "Game Pre-Installation" button will appear next time they boot up the launcher. The easiest way for iOS and Android users to begin pre-installing is to hit the new "Pre-Install Resource Package" icon that will now appear on the title screen. Another slightly more complicated method is available through the Paimon Menu. Now that a pre-installation function is on the way, it will make this 2021 New York Game Award-winning title potentially even better.

Though the game is preparing for the introduction of one bit of content, earlier this week Genshin Impact released the final issue of Teyvat Times, the newsletter that regularly entertained players with interesting facts about the title. These included player accomplishments, statistics, and cute comics including the game's characters. The company recently declared issue four will be the last.

Despite this loss, the developer continues to be dedicated to the game's core content. Genshin Impact has been steadily introducing new places to explore, items to collect, and characters to meet. One of the newest groups to join the fray will be the Yakshas, who will become available in February. To hype players and properly get them acquainted with the Guardian Adepti, a Yakshas story trailer was recently released.

There are always new characters being added, and the amount may feel overwhelming to some - especially new players. Resources are required to upgrade them and some characters are objectively better than others. This means players have to be wise when upgrading characters through their constellations, so it's worth knowing which Genshin Impact characters not to invest in.

Genshin Impact is available now on Android, iOS, PC, and PS4. A PS5 and Switch version is in development.
