Genshin Impact is known for its variety of colorful characters and unique ways to build them. Artifacts are one of the main features of a character’s build, but the energy-locked, RNG facet of acquiring that perfect piece can be both daunting and draining for Genshin Impact players.
Artifacts have always been one of the core features of a good Genshin Impact build which can make all the difference, especially in the latter stages of the game considering that the Spiral Abyss has become harder with each update. Farming for a perfect artifact set has always been a grind and it seems like players have seemingly had enough.
Artifact sets can be obtained in many different ways through exploring the vast world of Teyvat, finding different types of Chests, or defeating elite enemies and bosses. However, the main way most players acquire their desired artifact pieces is through different Domains since they can to a certain extend choose which exact artifact they want. Every Genshin Impact character has the option to carry up to five different types of artifacts, each of which carries the chance to drop a specific type of main stats and up to four sub-stats.
Reddit user funglasquent has made a thread on the official Genshin Impact subreddit claiming that miHoYo needs to remove at least one layer of RNG in artifact farming as it's nearly impossible to roll for a perfect set. The post then lists the six layers of RNG which all need to line up in order for players to acquire the perfect stats for their characters:
- The right artifact set: each Domain has the option to drop two different sets which means that the first layer already halves the chance for the perfect roll
- A specific piece of the set: there are five types of artifacts which means that players have 10 per cent chance to get the right artifact piece from the right set if the first layer percentage is included in the calculation.
- Acquiring the desired main stat: three out of five pieces have a chance to drop different main stats.
- Getting a perfect sub-stat before being rolled: every artifact piece can have four out of ten different sub-stats values and getting the right sub-stats is one of the main important parts of building strong Genshin Impact DPS characters. Usually, only three of those sub-stats are displayed before enhancing.
- Rolling for the fourth sub-stat: an artifact piece often seems perfect before its first enhancement reveals that the fourth sub-stat is far from the desired one.
- Sub-stat value: enhancing an artifact piece will always increase its main stat, however, the sub-stats values are getting increased randomly.
When it comes to deciding which Genhsin Impact artifact pieces are acceptable, players usually go by the 3/4 rule which means that an artifact is considered fairly decent if it contains three out of four desired sub-stats, provided that the main stat has to be the correct one. This way players can keep enhancing their pieces hoping that the wrong sub-stat won't get increased.
With that being said, it should be noted that Genshin Impact is not a very complex game and while this RNG system can seem frustrating for the hard-core grinders, casual players usually don't mind if their main DPS character has an artifact piece with strong defensive sub-stats. Excluding the Spiral Abyss, most of the game's content is fairly easy to go through, especially with a flexible party of Genshin Impact characters.
