Like many gacha games, Genshin Impact places a heavy emphasis on encouraging players to form emotional bonds with its many playable characters. However, this may have backfired, as one Genshin Impact player is now threatening to sue the developers over changes made to one specific playable character.

The newly-released Inazuma region is full of secrets and introduced a variety of new characters into the game to take full advantage of the new additions. One of these new characters is the Raiden Shogun, the Electro Archon and the current ruler of Inazuma, who was introduced as a new 5-star.

During miHoYo's beta tests, the Raiden Shogun had some surprisingly good synergy with Beidou, a fellow Electro character who was given out for free during a limited event. In Genshin Impact, team composition is very important, and many characters of the same elemental abilities will enhance each other's effects. Fans expected this combination to carry over into the full game--so much so, in fact, that some reportedly spent real money gambling to draw the Raiden Shogun. Unfortunately, when she was properly released, it soon became clear that Raiden Shogun is one of the few characters who can't work with Beidou's ability in the slightest. One Chinese player appears to be so upset by the changes that they've threatened to sue miHoYo over it.

On September 1, a player uploaded an image of their law license to miHoYo's official boards while talking about their grievances regarding the situation with Beidou and the Raiden Shogun, which would affect the Raiden Shogun's ideal in-game build. Five days later, what may or may not be a different user outright threatened to sue miHoYo for fraud on a separate forum. That second post was eventually edited to include a Chinese court portal, but all posts reference Beidou and the Raiden Shogun by name.

In the law license photo, there appears to be a paper with a name that matches that of the forum poster, and in the second forum post, the photo of the confirmation page seems to provide a case number and a phone number that connects to the Shanghai Xuhui District People’s Court Case Filing Division and Prosecution Center. Reportedly, the confirmation page states that the court will respond to their filing within seven days, when a judge will make a decision about where the case goes from there. If this is accurate, then it appears that one fan has let their strong feelings about Genshin Impact and the Raiden Shogun lead them straight into a lawsuit.

Genshin Impact is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5, and is in development for Switch.
