Genshin Impact players have recently been enjoying the arrival of the game's first significant content update, dubbed Version 1.1. Aside from updated gameplay mechanics and exciting new quests and events, this new patch also introduced long-awaited playable characters like the hotshot Tartaglia.

Although Ningguang had already made appearances in the Genshin Impact story before the 1.1 Update, players barely had a chance to meet her. If players end up Wishing for Ningguang, they'll find that unlocking the Tianquan is only the first step to realizing her full potential.

Updated on January 6, 2022, by Nahda Nabiilah: Many Genshin Impact players refuse to give Ningguang some attention. Some simply don't fancy catalyst users, while some others are thrown off by her Geo Vision. In the next Lantern Rite Festival, Genshin Impact will give away a free skin for Ningguang.

Therefore, Version 2.4 will be a great reason to start paying attention to the Tianquan. However, of course, before preparing for the Geo queen, players have to properly research her best equipment. Naturally, after more than a year of release, Ningguang has more artifact and weapon options. Consequently, this article is edited to include all the up-to-date information.

Ningguang's Talent Overview

Players interested in adding Ningguang to their team should be aware of her main functions. Not to say Ningguang can't play other roles on a team, but players are generally either using her as a high-powered Geo Element attacker or as a Supportive DPS teammate. And since catalysts in Genshin Impact cause all normal attacks to deal Elemental Damage as well, Ningguang is especially indispensable as a Geo attacker.

Normal Attack

Usually, characters have multiple multipliers on their Normal Attack, but Ningguang only has one. So with Ningguang, players don't have to worry about maintaining their hit streak and can fully benefit from animation canceling. After hitting an enemy with her Normal Attack, Ningguang will gain one Starjade (up to three). She can launch the Starjade by using Charged Attack.

Therefore, when using Ningguang, players have to remember to alternate between Normal and Charged hits. If Travelers unlock Ningguang's constellations in Genshin Impact, her Normal hit will deal AoE damage, and she will gain seven Starjades after using Elemental Burst.

Elemental Skill

Ningguang's Elemental Skill creates a Jade Screen that can block projectile attacks. This effect is usually neglectable, but the main feature of this ability is that when a character walks through it; they will get a 12% Geo Damage bonus. Other than that, this move will improve Ningguang's Elemental Burst by increasing the number of Gems launched.

Elemental Burst

As a sub-DPS, this move is Ningguang's core ability. It can deal massive damage and can be used frequently as it has a low cooldown and energy requirement.

Talent Level-Up Priority

Players should also consider the order in which they level up Ningguang's Talents if they want to maximize her effectiveness. To that end, it's recommended that Travelers prioritize Ningguang's Elemental Burst (her "ultimate" attack) first, then her Normal/Charged Attacks, and finally, her Jade Screen Elemental Skill. It doesn't trigger a special Elemental Reaction like Swirl, but Starshatter, her Elemental Burst, deals massive Area of Effect damage while building off of her existing Jade Screens; so maximizing this first makes for a particularly formidable Ningguang.

Best Artifacts For Ningguang In Genshin Impact

Whether it's for DPS or sub-DPS, the best artifact main stat for Ningguang would be:

  • Timepiece: Attack
  • Goblet: Geo Damage Bonus
  • Circlet: Critical Rate or Damage

Given that Ningguang can generate shields, she is one of few current characters who can truly take advantage of Artifact Sets like Retracing Bolide and Archaic Petra. Considering Ningguang can easily create shields through Crystallize reactions, Retracing Bolide is a great option for her. The two-piece set is defensive, while the four-piece will boost her offensive side.

Meanwhile, Archaic Petra will boost Geo Damage when equipped as a two-set. That is to say, Archaic Petra is more of a must-have for any Ningguang build. Aside from this, many Ningguang fans recommend equipping her with two pieces of equipment from either the Noblesse Oblige or Gladiator's Finale sets. Gladiator's Finale is an incredible Attack boosting artifact in Genshin Impact, so many are opting for that, but Noblesse Oblige uniquely boosts Burst Damage (and can boost Party Attack if equipped as a four-piece), so it's certainly not to be forgotten.

Ningguang can also benefit from Shimenawa's Reminiscence. Either two pieces or four pieces, they'll find that this set greatly increases her damage. For players who are worried about losing energy, they shouldn't fear. Ningguang is a great battery on her own, and considering her Elemental Burst only needs 40 energy to use, Shimenawa will not affect her ability to Burst.

Best Weapons For Ningguang In Genshin Impact

Insofar as weapons, players should first and foremost be aware of the general "rules" of trade: five-star weapons will generally outclass three and four-star weapons in sheer stats, however, three and four-star weapons are generally much easier to Refine. Fully Refined four-star equipment can be on-par with most un-enhanced five-star counterparts.

For four-star catalysts, F2P players can opt for Dodoco Tales or Blackcliff Agate. The former is a free weapon given at Version 1.6, while the latter is obtainable via the Paimon Shop. Dodoco Tales will boost both Ningguang's Normal and Charged Attack, along with increasing her Attack stat. Meanwhile, Blackcliff Agate is an amazing option for DPS Ningguang. It will grant a large Critical Damage off its substat, and the passive will boost Ningguang's Attack each time she defeats an enemy.

For people who are luckier with Gacha, they can use The Widsith. Like Blackcliff, this catalyst also increases Critical Damage. However, the weapon's passive has an RNG effect. Ningguang will benefit from Elemental Damage Bonus and Attack Bonus, but she doesn't really need Elemental Mastery buff.

Now, if players have been finding luck with Genshin Impact Wishes (or spending some money), they're welcome to look out for catalysts like the Lost Prayer, Solar Pearl, and Skyward Atlas - any of these pay-to-obtain weapons would be stellar for Ningguang, but as mentioned above, they'll be tough to upgrade past their initial stages. Other than that, Memory of Dust will be particularly excellent for Ningguang. This weapon will perform even better if the Tianquan is paired with Zhongli, the best teammate Ningguang can have in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
