Back to All Characters

In the ever-changing meta of Genshin Impact, it's easy to see which characters are timeless, and which ones are seasonal units. For example, Venti is an amazing support and crowd controller, but his viability once runs short when the enemies are dominated by large monsters that his Anemo can't handle. Meanwhile, units like Bennett, Xingqiu, and Xiangling are yet to find a time when they're not viable to fight in the Genshin Impact Spiral Abyss.

Among the many everlasting meta-unit, Mona is currently one of them. Although she may not be as popular now, she's still highly viable in many Genshin Impact team compositions. However, before people can consider using the Astrologist, they need to first be wary of the following common mistakes.

6 Using The Wrong Weapon

Mona is a versatile character in Genshin Impact. She can take on many roles, and she would shine in each and every one of them. However, when picking her Catalyst, people can’t give her one weapon and let her roll with it in every build and role. Instead, her weapon should match the job she’s out to do in her team comp.

If players are looking to deal the maximum amount of DMG with her Elemental Burst, then Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds, Skyward Atlas, and The Widsith are one of her best picks for that job. If she took a Supportive role, Mona can wield Favonius Codex or even Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers.

5 Failing To Understand Her Burst Mechanic

Mona has an exceptional Elemental Burst that is kind of misleading in its description in Genshin Impact. So, it’s normal if some players got confused over its mechanic, especially regarding when her Omen starts to take effect.

When Mona casts her Elemental Burst, she applies Hydro on all nearby enemies and immediately applies her Omen status. All small enemies will be trapped in some kind of bubble and any poise damage will pop the bubbles, triggering Mona’s Burst DMG to hit after. Omen's five seconds duration will only start after the bubble pop. Before then, the damage bonus can be enjoyed endlessly. This is why Mona is the top option for the Morgana team comp in Genshin Impact. Frozen enemies will prevent the bubble from exploding, meaning people can enjoy up to 13s of damage buff from Omen.

4 Not Knowing What Are Her Best Artifacts

Mona can rock many types of artifacts and stats in Genshin Impact. Just like picking her weapon, her artifacts are as important. Players should have a clear goal of what Mona’s responsibilities in the team are before applying her artifacts. Going for 4-Emblem of Severed Fate should be when players want to fully benefit from having more Energy Recharge on her since it boosts her Hydro and Burst DMG. Emblem allows Mona to operate as a Sub-DPS with a clear job of inflicting the highest DMG possible from her Burst.

Players should also not sleep on Noblesse Oblige. Mona and Noblesse unlock a new Supportive ability to add to her already stacked kit. She will be able to buff her team’s ATK% while still dealing a decent DMG. In the end, Mona is easy to build and make up for her confusing mechanics.

3 Taking So Much Field Time

Whatever the reason to use Mona in any team in Genshin Impact, it’s important to understand in any rotation, timing is key. Characters’ value increases when they can do so much in a little time, allowing the main DPS to take the field and benefit from their help.

When Mona takes the field, she can cast her Elemental Skill and Burst and applies her Omen, all in around three seconds. Keeping her on the field to Normal attack enemies or dodge their attacks is a big no-no.

2 Not Managing Her Energy Properly

One of the big mistakes when using Mona in Genshin Impact is not managing her Energy Properly. Taking a slot inside her team composition, Mona’s part will most likely be buffing her team’s DMG, and that can only be done through her Elemental Burst. So having her Stellaris Phantasm not ready and still needing time to fully regenerate will hurt the team’s DMG and rotations.

There are a couple of methods to solve this issue. Players can give Mona more Energy Recharge from her substat or even from her weapon’s secondary stat. Any ER that enters her stats is not a loss since it also buffs her Hydro DMG. She can also have another Hydro battery in her team, like Xingqiu.

1 Practice Makes Perfect

mona wondering why she cant fit in in genshin impact

Supports in Genshin Impact have it easy when it comes to fitting in team compositions. Players have to find what is the most stat that their DPS counts on, then pair them with a Support that enhances it. Some Supports even reduce that stat on enemies instead of buffing.

But that’s not the case with Mona since she may ruin the team’s reactions with her Elemental Burst mechanics. For that, before pairing Mona with other characters, players should practice her Synergy with them inside one team and make changes to improve their teamwork.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
