Chinese video game developer miHoYo has finally issued a statement in regards to the Genshin Impact version 1.2 leak that occurred in the closed beta test a while back. While it is not the first Genshin Impact leak that has happened since the game's launch back in September, it may certainly be the last, considering how miHoyo is all set to take legal action against the leakers this time around.

Genshin Impact, the free-to-play action RPG from miHoyo, has been a massive success since its launch two months ago. According to Industry Insider, Daniel Ahmad, the game grossed over $100 million in its first two weeks, thereby cementing its legacy as the most successful new IP from a Chinese developer. Meanwhile, miHoYo has been hard at work delivering frequent, meaningful updates for the game with a roadmap that stretches until February 2021. Whereas version 1.1 for Genshin Impact added four new playable characters like Zhongli, Childe, Xinyan, and Diona, version 1.2 is set to add an entirely new location called Dragonspine on December 23.

While the location had previously been confirmed by miHoYo, the new leak from the closed beta test also revealed eight new characters that will be added in the upcoming update. As expected, miHoyo didn't take this leak very well and has now planned to take legal action against the leakers. As of now, it has traced down partial information of two players that are allegedly responsible for this leak.

miHoYo further went on to explain that it understands players' anticipation for future content. But the leaked content is still something that is deep in development, meaning that seeing such content may be misleading for its fans as things can always change during the course of development. Additionally, miHoYo encouraged Genshin Impact players to stick to official sources for future information as it doubles down its effort to combat such leaks.

Speaking of leaks, miHoYo isn't the only company that is currently dealing with such an issue. The Japanese video game giant Capcom recently suffered a similar fate where it played the victim of a massive ransomware attack which led to hackers stealing data about the release date of its upcoming games, as well as personal data of its many employees and customers. While Capcom has released an official statement since then, which lists out exactly what was compromised in the leak, the investigation is still underway.

Genshin Impact is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Android, and iOS devices, with a Nintendo Switch version coming later down the line.
