With thousands of years of history, several moments in its storied past can leave a huge impression on the player. From fights between gods to the creation of Mora, there is no end to the lore behind the largest nation in the game so far. Here are just a few things every player should know about Liyue's history.

10 The Purpose Of The First Mora

One of the biggest themes of Zhongli's story quest is the debate in Liyue about the purpose of the first Mora, the currency used in Teyvat. The lore has made it abundantly clear that Mora is solely made in Liyue at the Golden House.

That said, many characters assert that Mora had a special purpose: its use as a standard value for contracts, an icon for secret meetings, etc. However, this is all dramatic irony for the player. As they know from Zhongli's lines in the quest, Rex Lapis created Mora for one purpose only: it was convenient.

9 The Building Of The Jade Chamber

The Jade Chamber is one of the most iconic buildings in all of Liyue. The life-long project of Ningguang, this flying palace once housed the Liyue Qixing. It was one of the biggest signals of the rise of the Qixing in the years before the game's events.

A building envied even by the genius adeptus Cloud Retainer, this building even wards off Osial in the Liyue storyline's climax. As such, the sacrifice of Ningguang's most prized possession demonstrates her love for the people of Liyue Harbor.

8 The Formation Of The Five Yaksha

The Yaksha are Liyue's closest equivalent to the Four Winds of Mondstadt. Formed by Rex Lapis thousands of years prior, these powerful element-using adepti became Liyue's protectors from the monsters that inhabited the lands.

Nowadays, Xiao is the last living Yaksha. Players can learn this through in-game lore such as Yakshas: The Guardian Adepti. Lonely and karma-ridden, Xiao easily became the most burden-holding character in the cast so far, showing the monumental responsibility that these protectors needed to uphold.

7 The Chi Of Qingce Village

Described in the quest "The Chi of Guyun", the Chi is a great dragon that existed in olden times. During the quest, little information can be confirmed about the dragon-like creature from Granny Ruoxin in Qingce Village.

But from what the player observes, rumors claim that Chi created the landscape of the village and is therefore revered in several places. That said, many clearly are unsure of the story's validity, making the Chi only a legend for now in the people of Liyue's eyes.

6 The Death Of Havria

Before the rise of Rex Lapis, Liyue was home to a variety of gods and deities. While the adepti still have a clear influence on the politics of the nation, the other gods of the nation have long since disappeared. One such goddess is that of the Sal Terrae, Havria.

The goddess of salt, Havria was a kind goddess that did not care for violence. However, the goddess would meet a gruesome fate in the era of warfare that she lived. She exploded in the underground of Sal Terrae, taking her followers with her. Her current followers falsely blame this fate on Rex Lapis.

5 The Creation Of The Liyue Qixing

While the adepti reign supreme in Jueyun Karst (and its complex puzzles), Liyue Harbor is the sole dominion of the Liyue Qixing. Composed of seven of the most powerful individuals in all the land, including both Ningguang and Keqing, this organization is the formal government of Liyue.

The Liyue Qixing was one of the lasting contributions of Rex Lapis' reign in Liyue. Ganyu is the oldest member of the Liyue Qixing, and has served as secretary since its formation.

4 The Sacrifice Of Skybracer

The Lantern Rite Festival is the biggest festivity in Liyue, and with its introduction in update 1.3, there are quite a few stories that it added to Liyue lore. One of the most notable is that of the great adeptus Skybracer.

During the Archon Wars, the Adeptus Skybracer propped up Mt. Tianheng with his own antlers, saving the people of Liyue Harbor and sacrificing his own life. For this act of selflessness, the people of Liyue now honor Skybracer  during the Lantern Festival.

3 The Healing Of Xiao

Sometimes, it's easy to forget that historical events are occurring elsewhere during important events in a country. While this isn't apparent in most cases, there are some instances in which characters in Liyue have interacted with characters in Mondstadt, such as Xingqiu and Albedo.

In one of the more recent cases, Venti helped heal the community's vigilant Yaksha, Xiao. Making a cameo as the Dihua flute player in the trailer Yakshas: The Guardian Adepti, it is implied that Venti kept Xiao from succumbing to his Karmic debt. Whether or not this means that the characters have a connection in their current forms is not confirmed.

2 The Life Of Guizhong

A Guizhong Ballista in Genshin Impact

Rex Lapis and Havria were not the only two deities in Ancient Liyue. A genius of great invention, Guizhong, acted as the goddess of dust. Together with Rex Lapis, they formed the Guili Assembly.

Guizhong acted as the brains to Rex Lapis' brawn, making one of the greatest duos in the history of Liyue. She created many machines, like the Guizhong Ballista, which helped to create the systems that protect Liyue today. However, the story of these two friends does not have a happy end.

1 The Rise Of Rex Lapis

Zhongli in Genshin Impact

"This is an age of gods and monsters. I wish not for dominion, yet I cannot watch the common folk suffer." – Zhongli

The Archon Wars were an era of great destruction throughout all of Teyvat. While they reached a bittersweet conclusion in the revolutions of Mondstadt, Liyue saw greater strife and tragedy.

Order has been Rex Lapis' defining principle throughout his reign. The sacrifices he had to go through in search of order were quite immense. Among the many casualties, his own friend Guizhong fell by his own hands at Luhua Pool.
