Kamisato Ayato is the older brother of Kamisato Ayaka in Genshin Impact. He is the head of the Yashiro Commission, but he rarely makes public appearances. His name has been teased since the release of Inazuma, and fans can finally see his appearance seven versions later.

Just like his sister, Ayaka, Kamisato Ayato also wields a sword. However, instead of a Cryo Vision, Ayato owns the Hydro version. The two share similar attack animations, where they would do some quick hits on their opponents. But, when it comes to their mechanic, Ayato has a far more complex system. This may cause players to make some of these common mistakes when playing Kamisato Ayato in Genshin Impact.

7 Leveling Up His Normal Attack

Some of Kamisato Ayato’s best builds in Genshin Impact revolve around items that enhance his Normal Attack. Even so, this doesn’t mean that Ayato needs his Normal Attack talent to be upgraded.

Ayaka’s brother heavily relies on Hydro slashes to deal damage, an ability that scales with the multipliers of his Elemental Skill. As Ayato’s damage mostly comes from his Skill, leveling his Normal Attack will do no good to his DPS. Instead, players should focus on leveling his Elemental Skill while completely ignoring his Normal Attack. This way, people can ensure their Ayato is dealing damage without wasting precious resources.

6 Using The Wrong Artifact Set

Ayato's best artifacts in Genshin Impact

Kamisato Ayato has a lot of artifact set options. Players can use Echoes of the Offering, Gladiator’s Finale, Heart of Depths, Shimenawa’s Reminiscence, or even Blizzard Strayer and Thundersoother. One thing to note is that each of these options has its own strengths and weaknesses.

Echoes of the Offering is somewhat dependable on RNG (although it does have a decent average trigger rate of 50.2%), Shimenawa’s Reminiscence requires a dedicated Genshin Impact Battery, while Blizzard Strayer and Thundersoother are niche for Freeze and Electro-Charged comp, respectively.

5 Not Utilizing His Hydro Application

Genshin Impact character Ayato

The head of the Yashiro commission has an amazing Hydro application on both his Skill and Burst. He’s quite literally a Hydro Ganyu when it comes to his ultimate. Considering how easy it is for players to apply Hydro with the eldest Kamisato, it’ll be a large waste to not use it. With Kamisato Ayato, players can opt for Vaporize, Freeze, or Electro-Charged Elemental reactions.

After his Elemental Skill is activated, Kamisato Ayato can do around 15 Hydro slashes. Meanwhile, for his Elemental Burst, there will be around 35 Hydro rains. Even though his ultimate sometimes doesn't hit, players can still expect around 15 hits in his Burst duration.

4 Building Him On HP

Best build for Ayato in Genshin Impact

When Ayato was first announced, it was believed he was going to be an HP character. However, this is not the case at all. Ayato did get some damage bonus that scales with his HP (via Namisen stacks), but it’s a massive waste to build him on this Genshin Impact stat.

The HP bonus should only be treated as a damage addition, but not as a primary source of damage. Ayato is best built on the typical Attack/Hydro/Critical build. This system is similar to Yae Miko, where she gains damage as she has more Elemental Mastery. While stacking EM on Yae Miko is beneficial, the passive is mostly there so that the stat won’t be wasted on the character.

3 Underestimating Elemental Reaction Combos

For Kamisato Ayato’s team composition in Genshin Impact, players can use Xiangling for Vaporize, Ganyu or Ayaka for Freeze, and Fischl, Beidou, Raiden Shogun, or Yae Miko for Electro-Charged.

Xiangling is especially great for Elemental Reactions as she completely ignores the rule of internal cooldown (ICD). This means she can do Vaporize on every Pyronado hit. For Freeze team composition, the combination of Ganyu's and Ayato's Elemental Burst easily allows players to perma-Freeze surrounding enemies. Meanwhile, for Electro-Charged, C6 Fischl is the most fun option, where Oz will attack twice along with Kamisato Ayato's quick slashes.

2 Using The Wrong Weapon On Ayato

Best 5star weapons for Ayato in Genshin Impact

As Ayato mainly focuses on his Hydro Normal Attack hits, his sword should enhance this part of his kit. Obviously, Haran Geppaku Futsu is the best weapon for Kamisato Ayato in Genshin Impact, but other than that, there are some other alternatives.

Primordial Jade Cutter is great not only for its high Critical Rate stat but because it also enhances Kamisato Ayato’s HP. This means players can get more damage bonuses via his Namisen stacks. As for the 4-star swords, Black Sword grants Critical Rate and a damage bonus for Normal and Charged attacks. This is perfect for Ayato’s abilities.

1 Utilizing His Physical Attacks

Ayato best weapons in Genshin Impact

As Kamisato Ayato is best built on Hydro Goblet and players should steer clear of leveling his Normal Attack, it’s clear that utilizing the Kamisato brother’s Physical hits would be far from optimal.

Therefore, when his Hydro infusion ends, and he needs to wait six seconds cooldown, players should use the time to rotate between the team members.

This is far better than continuing hitting with Ayato and his Physical hits. Rotation is crucial if the character has no Energy, where a Battery should be able to feed his Elemental Burst.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
