Player Mistakes

Back to All Characters

Ganyu is right up there at the top spot along with Hu Tao for the best DPS character in Genshin Impact right now. In fact, she might even be better than the latest 5-star DPS in Genshin Impact since her damage is raw and has no conditions. Couple that with the ranged attack and the thunder thighs and she might just be the most desirable DPS in the game right now.

Simply put, if you have Ganyu, life is good. However, it can be better. Instead of dealing the usual five-digit bloom attacks every 2 seconds or so, you can push it way up to the six digits and disgustingly make any content in the game trivial. So for those who have Ganyu and are looking to make Genshin Impact boring even at World Level 8, don't make these mistakes.

10 Rushing To Wanderer's Troupe

Sounds ironic but there's a big thing to consider here: artifact grinding can be inefficient. While Wanderer's Troupe is considered as the best artifact set for a DPS Ganyu, farming for it before Adventure Rank 55 is maddening and impractical because there's no guarantee of 5-star pieces.

Instead, players should find solace in the Blizzard Strayer set assuming they're below AR 55. It works decently enough for Ganyu and can even provide some much-needed Crit Rate boost. A good Blizzard Strayer can even be more desirable than a bad Wanderer's Troupe.

9 She Doesn't Need To Be Far When Using Amos Bow

This advice is only for those lucky children-of-god who managed to snag an Amos Bow — the best bow in the game and also for Ganyu. One particular reason that it's so good for her is how its perk works on Ganyu's Charged Shot's blooms.

Amos Bow's timer is still ticking in the half-a-second before the bloom rains down on the enemies. As such, she doesn't need to be far away from targets in order to get the most damage with her Charge Shot blooms if you're using Amos Bow. No need to fear for ruined synergies with support characters.

8 She Doesn't Even Need Support

Well, there's the truth about Ganyu though. While other DPS characters like Hu Tao or Diluc can't exist in a vacuum and require hydro or cryo applications from other characters, Ganyu is fiercely independent.

Even without someone to apply pyro (for Melt) or hydro (for Frozen) for her, her Charged Shots can still deal around 30,000 to 50,000 damage without food buffs every 2 seconds. Heck, some players are even clearing Floor 12 of the Spiral Abyss with a team 1 consisting only of Ganyu. NREs have made it possible along with her intense Elemental Skill that taunts enemies and keeps her safe.

7 Ignoring Her Elemental Burst

Ganyu's selling point does appear to be her Charged Shots which has the most insane multiplier out of all bow users so far but she has proven herself to be a top-tier DPS support as well. It's thanks to her zero-downtime Elemental Burst.

Her Elemental Burst is also a valuable asset, even if you're not using her for support and purely for DPS; she has a passive talent that grants a 20 percent cryo damage bonus for any friendly unit residing within the Elemental Burst area. So for maximum cryo damage, make sure to pop off that burst frequently.

6 Not Using The Elemental Skill To Dodge

If Ganyu has one glaring weakness, that would be the laughably low defense and HP. She's quite the glass cannon and can easily die after getting caught in several attack chains. She's even more vulnerable to those especially if players are distracted by their Charged Shot aiming.

Thankfully, the developers practically gave Ganyu three immediate dodges. The first two are from the Stamina bar (which goes on a short cooldown) while the third is from her Elemental Skill. Many players use this too early or waste it without using it for dodges. It will take some time to get used to it as a dodge button but it's what can save Ganyu most of the time.

5 Not Prioritizing The Normal Attack Talent

While it's good to have Ganyu as a support character, she shines the most when used as a DPS and is just too good to pass up. This wasn't apparent when she initially released and many players were confused about how to build her.

Turns out all they had to prioritize leveling in order to make her the best DPS in the game was nothing but the Normal Attack talent. Funny thing is, you won't be doing normal attacks but since Charged Shots fall under this talent, they get boosted up into the stars.

4 Impatience

Here's the biggest problem with having Ganyu as your main or only damage dealer, her Charged Shots can get rather fiddly. They take some time getting used to and certainly not for everyone. Players have to aim and wait.

The two-second duration for the Charge Shot to reach level 2 can seem like forever which is why many players commit the mistake of releasing half a second too early. This results in a bad shot that barely does what Ganyu is capable of. There's no other way around this though but to count accurately.

3 Not Aiming At the Weakpoint

The beauty of being a bow user in Genshin Impact is that enemies have tons of weak points. For Ganyu, she's even more effective at abusing this since she mostly only does Charged Shots.

Ganyu can easily aim for weak spots and thus incapacitate enemies. For Hilichurls, it's usually the head; for Ruin Guards, it's the glowing eye. Many players tend to forego these spots in favor of releasing a Charged Shot as soon as possible. However, their tactical advantage can mean life and death for Ganyu.

2 Playing With A Controller

One big reason that Ganyu isn't for everyone is that aiming in Genshin Impact is one of the worst feelings in the game. It's clunky and doesn't have many options for adjustment.

That's why playing Ganyu on a controller automatically means lower DPS output. The most superior method to perform her Charged Shots is with a mouse. Mobile phones are only slightly better than controllers because of the auto-hold option and the more sensitive aiming.

1 Too Much Crit Rate

Ganyu's main stats for ascension is her Crit Damage. Still, unbeknownst to some players, she also has tons of hidden Crit Rate. Her passive talent alone gives her 20 percent after firing a Charged Shot. Give her a cryo resonance and that's another 15 percent.

Give her the Blizzard Strayer set and that's another 20 percent. Throw in a hydro support for Frozen reactions while she's wearing the Blizzard Strayer and you get another 20 percent. In total, that's 75 percent with 20 percent being permanent or unconditional. Make sure to take that into account before dumping too many artifacts with Crit Rate stats on Ganyu.
