It's been just over a month now since the launch of Genshin Impact 1.5, the latest update for miHoYo's gacha-based RPG. As well as introducing new characters and weapons, the update has also included many new events. One of these events is Mimi Tomo, which requires players to communicate with Genshin Impact's Hilichurls.

Hilichurls are one of the main enemies in Genshin Impact. They're a tribal goblin-like race with a penchant for masks, hostility to outsiders, and a hunter-gatherer lifestyle. Despite their rudimentary ways, the Hilichurls do have a basic language. Ella Musk, an NPC that can be found in the Mondstadt Libray, is an expert in Hilichurlian and the quest-giver for the Mimi Tomo event.

Mimi Tomo in Genshin Impact

In the Mimi Tomo event Ella Musk wants players to find the so-called Unusual Hilichurl. The Unusual Hilichurl is an NPC who has randomly appeared in Genshin Impact for a while now, and is widely considered to be an Easter Egg. However, the Mimi Tomo event proves that the Unusual Hilichurl is more than just a reference to miHoYo's CEO. In order to find him, players will need to learn the rudiments of Hilichurlian.

To help players understand the Hilichurl's language, Ella Musk will provide them with a copy of the "Handy Handbook of Hilichurlian." This book contains some basic Hilichurlian words and phrases, which are enough to help players complete the Mimi Tomo Event.

Genshin Impact's Day 1-4 Hilichurl Translations

Genshin Impact players will be called upon to translate several different Hilichurl sentences over the course of the Mimi Tomo event. For players who are having trouble working with the Handy Handbook, here's our complete breakdown of what they mean:

"Mita movo lata"

This phrases starts with the word for "meat", followed by one meaning "in/from", and finally "water." The rough translation is "Meat from the water," meaning that the Hilichurl is asking for some kind of seafood.

"Celi lata"

In this phrase we discover a new meaning of lata, when it's combined with celi. Celi refers to something that is hot, but lata changes the meaning to indicate light without heat. This means that the Hilichurl is asking for something that gives off light but not heat, like Crystal, Small Lamp Grass, Luminescent Spine, or Noctilucous Jade.

"Gusha celi boya"

Gusha is the Hilichurl word for plants, vegetables, and fruits, in this sentence its combined with the words celi and boya. As we know, celi means hot, but the addition of boya indicates that this is a color. The color of fire is red, so celi boya translates directly to red. This means the Hilichurl is looking for a red plant.

"Lata boya sada"

Lata and boya combine in this word to indicate the color of water, blue. This is followed by sada, meaning something that is solid or hard. This indicates that the Hilichurl is looking for something blue and hard, like Crystal, Loach Pearl, or Starsilver.

Genshin Impact's Day 5-7 Hilichurl Translations

The Hilichurl sentences in the latter half of the Mimi Tomo event aren't significantly more complicated, but they do introduce new words and concepts:

"Kucha Gusha"

This phrase combines gusha, the word for plants, vegetables, and fruits, with kucha. Kucha means small, and together these words indicate a seed. This means the Hilichurl is looking for anything seed-like, including Almonds, Rice, Pinecones, and Wheat.

"Upano"

Upano is a word that even Ella Musk struggles to define. It loosely refers to things that are above, meaning things that are flying, on high places, or in the sky. This rather vague request can be satisfied with Butterfly Wings, Crystal Core, Fowl, Luminescent Spine, or Dandelion Seed.

"Gusha Unu Boya"

The final phrase for players to translate in Genshin Impact's latest event combines several words we've already learned. Gusha returns, indicating plants, vegetables, and fruits, along with boya to indicate a color. The color in this case is yellow, as indicated by the word unu. This means the Hilichurl will be satisfied with Berries, Mushrooms, Potatoes, Snapdragon, Sweet Flower, or Wheat.

There are many other words and phrases that players have managed to translate from the Hilichurl language, even before receiving the Handy Handbook. It's entirely possible that Genshin Impact will return to Ella Musk's studies in Hilichurlian in the future, giving players more insight into the mysterious race.

Genshin Impact is available for Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5, with a Switch version in development.
