While human characters are the most prevalent in Genshin Impact, there's a lot of diversity in the cast as far as species is concerned. From the Kätzlein in Springvale to Liyue's Adepti to whatever Sucrose is, Teyvat is crawling with characters with unique design traits and features. The newest to this cast is none other than the dog general himself: Gorou.

Currently the head general of the Watatsumi Island Army, Gorou has quickly become a fan-favorite among the Genshin Impact community for his adorable personality and interesting character design. However, given how novel his appearance has been in the series, there are still a lot of unknowns about who exactly Gorou is. Here's what we know so far.

Updated on December 4, 2021, by Scott Vengel: miHoYo's Genshin Impact continues to move along, now with reruns for both Eula and Albedo well underway. While the community is very excited about the new two-banner system, it is also leaving many wondering about what the future could potentially hold for banners. That said, the near future has at least one thing set in stone: both Arataki Itto and Gorou will be featured in the banner system after the current rerun banners conclude on December 14. As such, this article will be updated to introduce more information released on Gorou, in anticipation of his soon-to-be appearance.

8 Gorou's Appearance Is Scruffy

After both Sucrose and Diona, Gorou is the next anticipated "animal" character in Genshin Impact. Specifically, Gorou has the adorable features of a Shiba Inu, dog ears, tail, and all. These features also play a distinct role in Gorou's personally: playful, loyal, and agile.

Of course, Gorou also boasts sesame-colored hair, with a little fluff of white on his forehead. All the while, Gorou is also fairly short, making him an adorable assistant of Sangonomiya Kokomi in Genshin Impact's plot.

7 Gorou Is The General Of The Rebel Forces

In Inazuma's arc of the main story, the plot was mainly driven by two main actors: the Shogun's Army backed by the Tenryou Commission, and the Watatsumi Resistance backed secretly by the Yashiro Commission. While Kujou Sara served as the principal general of the Shogunate Army, the Resistance was lead by two main figures: Sangonomiya Kokomi as the brains, and Gorou as the brawn. As such, Gorou was the main leading general of the Watatsumi forces, giving orders regarding supplies and fighting directly with forces on the battlefield.

That said, now that the war has ended, Gorou's position has become more domestic. Though he's no longer thn fighting on the battlefield, Gorou still works as the general of the Watatsumi Army in their role defending the interior of the island. Now, the Watatsumi Army acts more as a police force, similar to the Knights of Favonius in Mondstadt. Within the army, Gorou currently plays an important role in maintaining the stability of Watatsumi Island.

6 Gorou Also Works At The Yae Publishing House

While more well-known for his job at the General of Watatsumi Island's Resistance, many in the Genshin Impact community are unfamiliar with Gorou's second job at the Yae Publishing House. Specifically, Gorou writes a magazine column called "That's Life," which is featured Gorou's hangout event.

While fans of Genshin Impact are aware of Gorou's contribution to Inazuma's literature, this isn't the case in the world of Teyvat. Gorou's writing endeavors are hidden under the surface, choosing to write under the pen name Ms. Hina (who has become quite famous among those in Inazuma.)

5 Gorou Is A Warrior

Though Gorou may seem like an adorable puppy (a Shiba Inu, to be exact), this is ultimately a facade veiling his deeper nature. Many sources state that when Gorou fights on the battlefield, he becomes a different type of person, fueled by adrenaline and pure will alone.

When he was first introduced in the plot, Gorou left an impression as a calm and steady individual. In a fight, though, he is a fierce warrior. It is said that Gorou becomes more and more vicious as a battle goes on, which the Traveler sees firsthand in their battle against the Shogunate Army during the main arc of the story.

Unlike Sangonomiya Kokomi, who uses careful planning to achieve victory, Gorou uses his deadly instincts to achieve victory at any cost. It's largely for this reason that Kokomi entrusts her armies to Gorou's bravery, knowing that he'll pull them through.

4 Gorou Is Loyal And Respected

Loyalty and honor are central themes during the Inazuma arc of Genshin Impact, and few characters represent these ideals better than Gorou. After all, it's these personality traits that made Sangonomiya Kokomi choose Gorou as her primary general. Throughout this part of the story, characters like the wandering samurai Kazuha go as far as to highlight Gorou's loyalty in their voice lines.

Gorou's loyalty is a large part of the reason he has become one of the most well-respected people in Inazuma. Even his (former) enemies, like the Tenryou Commission's Kujou Sara, demonstrate respect for Gorou because of his loyalty to Kokomi, rather than his fighting prowess.

Part of Gorou's loyalty may be derived from his view of his troops and his people. Rather than regarding them as strangers, Gorou views all of his troops as beloved companions that need to be treasured and protected at all costs. This leads Gorou to become even more brutal during battle, as he not only needs to achieve victory, but also ensure that all of his comrades are safe.

3 Gorou Has A Geo Vision

As far as playstyles go, Gorou was unique from the moment he appeared. For starters, he fills an element-weapon combination that had yet to be used in Genshin Impact. Gorou is the first Geo bow-user to ever be introduced in the game. However, the uniqueness of Gorou's playstyle doesn't end there.

Kazuha gives a lot of insight into Gorou's temperament, saying that the general often needs somebody to keep them in check. Otherwise, Gorou's adrenaline rush style of combat could easily get out of hand. How miHoYo plans to implement this trait of Gorou into his combat is an interesting consideration to keep in mind, as well as something to look forward to for players eager to try out a more dynamic playstyle. So far, it looks like Gorou will have talents that boost the attack of teammates, based on the number of Geo users in the party.

2 Gorou's Voice Actor Is Cory Yee

Each beloved character in Genshin Impact is supplied by the talent and skill of a voice actor. In English, Gorou's voice actor is Cory Yee, a film specialist and voice actor based in California.

Fans may know Cory Yee from their work in Seiken Densetsu 3: Trials of Mana, Destiny 2, and of course, their prior work as Draff in Genshin Impact. In addition, Cory Yee has worked in a variety of other works as a producer, writer, and sound / visual effects expert.

1 Gorou Uses Canis Bellatoris

genshin impact gorou official artwork

All characters in Genshin Impact base their general playstyle on a constellation. Gorou's constellation is Canis Bellatoris, which translates to "Dog of War" in Latin. In general, a dog of war refers to a soldier that fights on the front lines. The definition matches well with Gorou's description in-game, and the literal phrase itself describes his physical appearance.

As such, Genshin Impact players can expect Gorou to be very combat-focused, with passive talents that would aid in a battlefield setting. In addition, Gorou's passive talents may focus on finding nearby resources, given the Shiba Inu's reputation in Japan as a hunting dog. This fact, however, has not been confirmed at the present moment; players can only wait and see how Gorou will play in battle.

Genshin Impact is available on mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5.
