As Genshin Impact's release date slowly closes in, the action-adventure game gets a gorgeous gameplay overview during Sony's State of Play event.

Genshin Impact is the second game from the development team MiHoYo to feature original IP, with the first being Gun GirlZ, both of which implement stunning anime-style character art, but the gameplay is far from that of a traditional JRPG. Genshin Impact was first announced in June of last year with a targeted release window of 2020 for both iOS and Windows. However, at Sony's ChinaJoy event last year, it was announced that the open-world game would also be coming to PlayStation 4, and earlier this year, a Switch version was advertised as well, but it wasn't until today's State of Play event that a more specific release date was given.

Recently, Miyoho had announced that Genshin Impact would go into its final round of closed beta, which means the full release is creeping ever closer. At Sony's State of Play livestream event, fans were offered a short gameplay trailer that shows off the stunning open-world the player can explore by walking, climbing, swimming, and gliding. Summoning magic to complete quests will also have a major role in the game.

The player will be able to unlock up to 30 playable characters and will be able to control up to four at a time, each of which controls one of seven natural elements such as Cryo, Hydro, and Electro. Each character will also specialize in a unique weapon, such as a bow or a greatsword, and will each have two combat skills: a normal skill and a special skill. It's been confirmed that multiplayer gameplay will be supported in Genshin Impact, possibly meaning that players could team up together in fights against the mythical beasts.

Many fans have taken notice that the game is heavily inspired by the gorgeous Hyrulian universe of Breath of the Wild, shown off at the game's original reveal trailer. Many similarities look to be shared between the two games such as cooking being a significant mechanic with a heavy impact on gameplay. But while some fans were quick to criticize the inspiration drawn from Nintendo's smash release, others are very excited for another opportunity to traverse an open-world title.

According to the @GenshinImpact official Twitter page, the game will greet iOS, Android, and PC platforms "before October," and at the State of Play event, MiHoYo announced that a PS4 launch would be coming Autumn 2020, possibly meaning that the game's full release for PS4 will come at the same time as PC and mobile devices.

Genshin Impact will release for Android, iOS, PC, and PS4 in Autumn 2020, with Switch and Xbox One releases on the way.
