Genshin Impact players are finally allowed to enter the previously locked-down Dragonspine area, which sits at the center of Teyvat's current map. This area, and the update that introduced it, allows players to explore wholly new questlines, enemies, creatures, and even weapons, as they traverse a dangerous sub-zero terrain.

Apart from all new content, Genshin Impact has also introduced a new rewards system with the Version 1.2 update, aimed at players who upgrade their characters. As of Version 1.2, players will now receive a free Acquaint Fate upon achieving significant Ascension milestones.

This reward system is not only already active, but also respective of existing players. Which is to say: players who have Ascended characters prior to Version 1.2 can now login to the game and claim however many Acquaint Fates they would've earned otherwise. These Acquaint Fates will be granted to players upon completing a character Ascension at the character's Level 20, 50, and 70, each. So, players should be able to earn at least three free Acquaint Fates from every playable character, so long as they can level them up sufficiently.

Acquaint Fates function as the "standard summon" in Genshin Impact, allowing players one Wish each from the current in-game Standard Banner. Intertwined Fates, on the other hand, allow for Wishes from the Special Character Banner, which currently features five-star Geo swordsman, Albedo. Unfortunately, these new Ascension Rewards are all Acquaint Fates though, so players won't be able to use this new loot for a shot at new characters.

Nevertheless, most players who've been playing for at least several weeks will have collected, at minimum, 5 playable characters. They'll also most likely have Ascended those characters at least a single time each, so most pre-Version 1.2 Travelers are realistically looking at a bare minimum of 5 free Acquaint Fates from this new update. To claim the Acquaint Fates, simply head to a character's main profile and select the small Ascension Preview icon at the top right (see image above).

Players should be aware that there aren't any new five-star characters in the Standard Banner, however, all of the recent four-star arrivals, like Ningguang and Xinyan, can be encountered. Not to mention, players must summon additional copies of a character to fully unlock their "Constellations."

Constellations are a controversial part of Genshin Impact, because although they basically give a character amazing new buffs and abilities, they can only be unlocked through sheer luck and relentless Wishing. So controversy aside, players who want to truly optimize some of their favorite characters will be needing to summon that character again. If the character in question is available from the Standard Banner like Razor, Beidou, or Qiqi, these Acquaint Fates will be an eagerly welcomed assist.

Genshin Impact is available now on the App Store, Google Play, PC, and PS4, and is currently in development for PS5 and Switch.
