Many players are very excited about Genshin Impact, and for good reason. Despite its free to play nature, it seems to offer a lot of what gamers love right now, including an open world environment to explore and a voice acted story. Unfortunately, many are unable to experience all of those wonderful things due to an abysmally slow download speeds.

Before getting to play, potential Genshin Impact players will need to download the game first. This doesn't sound like it should be all that difficult, but it is taking some players incredible lengths of time just to download the 15GB game.

This is obviously a huge pain, but thankfully, some players have found an easy workaround to this. For those experiencing download times under 1MB/second, simply pausing and restarting the download may be the fix that is needed. Several of those already playing Genshin Impact have reported that this solved the problem, bringing the total download time to something much more manageable.

From within the launcher, players simply need to pause and unpause the download a few times, remembering that it may not work the first time. Some players report that doing this lowered their download speed at first, but repeated attempts eventually resulted in a better speed. Most accounts claim the download speed was still low (think sub 10MB/seconds), but the game's size is small when compared to things like Call of Duty: Warzone's massive updates. For those players that have tried this, there are other options as well that might work to speed up the download time.

On the same principle, closing out of the launcher entirely and reopening it seems to have positive results for some, and if even that doesn't work, players may just need to delete the application and start the download over again. It's currently unclear what is causing these terrible download speeds, but it is likely something server side given how many people are experiencing issues. With any luck, Genshin Impact developer miHoYo will fix this issue soon so that players don't have to jump through hoops to play its game, but the developer has not made any comment on the issue yet.

Other than these things, players should make sure they have a strong internet connection and are using an ethernet cable for wired connection if possible. More likely than not, this issue is a result of too many people trying to download it all at once, so the worst case scenario is that server strain should lighten up within a few days, finally giving players the chance to experience the story and gameplay of Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
