Genshin Impact grows in content and scope with each new update released by developer HoYoverse. The world map expands with new regions and activities to fast travel to, but some locations are well hidden due to cave systems. A Genshin Impact player recommends a quality of life change that could improve the world map for newcomers and players who have explored the game's farthest reaches.
Reddit user StrayDog25 recommends a cave entrance symbol as a custom pin option for Genshin Impact's world map. The feature would allow players to mark caves with an entrance symbol on the map. Many icons are scattered across the map, such as travel waypoints and domains, so the cave symbol would act as a unique indicator.
StrayDog25's quality of life recommendation was made following the release of Genshin Impact version 3.0, which introduced the Sumeru region this past August. Sumeru contains various cave systems that run underneath what's displayed on the Genshin Impact map. Unlike the Chasm in Liyue, Sumeru's caves are not displayed on a separate map. As a result, the current Sumeru map created confusion amongst some Genshin Impact players in the Reddit community.
Currently, the Genshin Impact map allows players to place a total of 150 custom pins. Seven custom pin symbols are available such as a Hilichurl, pickaxe, fishing hook, and star. HoYoverse added cave entrances to its interactive Genshin Impact map for web browsers, but the entrances are not labeled in the actual in-game map. Some players have opted to use the interactive map on a separate tab or device to keep track of cave systems in Sumeru.
It will be interesting to see if HoYoverse listens to player feedback and enhances the adventuring experience for all Genshin Impact players. Quality of life features such as the cave custom pin allow players to easily navigate and revisit areas to uncover more secrets and loot. Exploration is a key component of Genshin Impact's gameplay loop and there's still room for improvement with new updates.
HoYoverse may be able to address some of the community's feedback in Genshin Impact versions 3.1 through 3.5. The company outlined its update schedule, confirming a five-week duration for the next round of updates. However, HoYoverse will not decrease the amount of content planned for each update, so players should have plenty of new content to explore leading into the end of the year.
Genshin Impact is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. A Nintendo Switch version is in development with no confirmed release date.
