The world of Genshin Impact is rich in lore and mysteries, and updates continue to build upon the game's story. Upon visiting the first major city, Mondstadt, players gain a sense of the world's scope and embark on a journey to reunite with the protagonist's sibling. A Genshin Impact player points out a bizarre detail regarding NPCs Dr. Edith and Ella Musk, leading to another potential mystery.

Mondstadt and its vast surrounding areas serve as the introduction of Genshin Impact. Players first spawn on the beach near Starfell Lake and traverse the wilderness before reaching the first Statue of the Seven, which is based on the Anemo Archon known as Barbatos. The city of Mondstadt is seen on the horizon and the player eventually meets Amber, a protector of Mondstadt, and the city's colorful population of characters. Some of these characters include Dr. Edith, a historian and folklore researcher, and her sister Ella Musk, a scholar of Hilichurlian linguistics.

Reddit user u/Yorgh-Drakeblood discussed a puzzling detail about Dr. Edith and Ella Musk, as dialogue reveals that Ella is the older sibling. However, Ella appears to be a young child while Dr. Edith is a fully grown adult. The relationship between the Musk sisters is not further explained in Genshin Impact, encouraging speculation surrounding Ella's true age amongst players. Currently, Ella may be found inside the Mondstadt library or found near Hilichurl camps in areas surrounding Mondstadt. Dr. Edith usually patrols the area around the Statue of the Seven in Windrise.

Genshin Impact Dr. Edith and Ella

u/Yorgh-Drakeblood and the Genshin Impact community on Reddit speculate that localization errors could be the reason why Dr. Edith says Ella is her older sister. Another possibility shrouded in speculation is Ella's growth being stunted, but there's a lack of concrete evidence to point in that direction. Answers could lie within the game's development history since miHoYo originally designed Ella as an adult in the Genshin Impact beta. Beta tester feedback encouraged miHoYo to add children into the game in order to make Genshin Impact's world more believable and diverse. As a result, dialogue pertaining to Ella's older counterpart was possibly left unchanged.

Speculation about Dr. Edith and Ella can not be outright denied due to the fantastical nature of Genshin Impact. For instance, Genshin Impact's Venti appears as a young bard, but the game's story reveals a grand and timeless role behind the character.

Whether intentional or not, mysteries such as the Musk siblings continue to keep some Genshin Impact players guessing for years. The Genshin Impact community continues to enjoy the open-world action RPG, and Genshin Impact version 3.0 will expand the world even further with the arrival of Sumeru.

Genshin Impact is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. A Nintendo Switch version is in development with no confirmed release date.
