Diluc in Genshin Impact is simple enough to use. You just hit things until they catch fire, making one of the most appealing and most powerful 5-star characters in the game. This also, somewhat, gives Diluc players a reputation for being bad players who are all flash, no substance, and die immediately in the Hidden Formula of Zhou Domain.

If you're one of those, then it's time to step up your game by knowing how to Diluc. Because it turns out there's an optimal way to play him by merely understanding the nuances of his talents. Just like the character he's derived from, Batman, Diluc is often misunderstood, so it's time to get fond of him and his talents... assuming you actually have him.

Upgrade Them All Equally

So, which among the three upgradeable talents to prioritize for Diluc? All of them. Unlike other characters, each of Diluc's talents is equally substantial. One might think that the Elemental Burst, Dawn is the most important but it's actually the least-used talent in most cases.

The way Diluc plays out assuming he starts out at zero energy is to open with the Elemental Skill, Searing Onslaught and then fire off Dawn once it's available. After that, doing normal attacks or Searing Onslaught until Dawn is available again is the usual sequence. If you do have to choose which one to level-up first come level 7 or higher, then it ought to be Searing Onslaught. In special cases where you have the Skyward Pride and can spam Dawn more frequently, then leveling that ahead of the others is preferable.

Focus On Pyro Damage Increase

It might be tempting to have a Diluc with an ATK stat that's pushing past 3000 or more but in the long run, it's not exactly a stat to die for. Instead, boosting up Diluc's pyro damage is key to ensuring his damage potential.

That means grabbing a 5-star pyro goblet artifact for him is almost mandatory. In addition to that, attacking with physical damage should be avoided as much as possible. That's how Diluc loses some valuable DPS.

Learn Some Normal Attack Animation Canceling

Now, on to the normal attack talent, Tempered Sword. It's a special one that's faster than claymore users with the teenage body frame. Still, players can make it faster by canceling the fourth attack in the combo animation.

That's because the fourth and final attack takes a long windup and has a longer animation. Canceling it by jumping and then doing the attack cycle again is argued among the Diluc mains as one of the best ways to be efficient with him.

Elemental Skill Is Used Most Frequently

Think of Diluc's Elemental Burst as a panic button that clears up the whole floor. It's not always available, meaning in the long run, something like the Elemental Skill can actually make Diluc output some consistent damage.

After all, it has only a six-second cooldown. If upgraded or even used with an elemental reaction, it can dish out as much as 30-40,000 damage per strike. Think about using it more often for single-targets who won't get dragged away by Dawn.

Squeeze In Some Attacks Between Each Elemental Skill

Now for the tactic that separates the newbies from the pros when it comes to piloting Diluc: weaving in some normal attacks between Searing Onslaught strikes. Because Searing Onslaught has a short but generous duration before it resets and gets a cooldown, players can attack in between those strikes.

Some players even try to squeeze in Diluc's three-attack combo before doing another Searing Onslaught. This requires practice though; getting interrupted by the enemy can ruin the rotation and force Searing Onslaught into cooldown before the three strikes at dealt.

The Crimson Witch Set Is Built For The Elemental Skill

One artifact set in Genshin Impact appears to have been disgustingly made for Diluc alone and that's the Crimson Witch set. It's by far the most perfect fit or union between a character and an artifact set in the game.

The 4-piece bonus seems to have been made with Searing Onslaught in mind; it can produce three successive Elemental Skill instances so Diluc can grab that sweet 20+ percent pyro damage bonus increase. So get to Wuwang Hill if you want your Diluc's talents to at least be decent.

Don't Use Elemental Burst Without Melt Or Vaporize

So what happens once you see that Elemental Burst icon lighting up? Getting excited and pressing it right away can often be a waste of a huge damage spike. Because the current best elemental reactions in the game are Melt and Vaporize. Diluc can easily achieve both because of his pyro damage.

Hence, the common practice before firing off Dawn is to switch to Xinqiu or Kaeya and activate their Bursts so Diluc's target gets the hydro or cryo status. Only then should you release that giant flaming eagle to cleanse those pesky Hilichurls. Some even make this a numbers game by trying to reach 100,000 Melt/Vaporize damage.

Take Note Of Positioning When Using Elemental Burst

Dawn, despite how easy it is to use, requires some finesse and control to it. Apart from taking the time to apply Melt or Vaporize damage players should also be mindful of the battlefield composition.

That means going around a long target and making sure that other targets are behind them so Dawn's auto-target actually hits all of them. There's is nothing more headache-inducing than wasting Dawn on a single-target if there are many enemies.

Use The Skill First Before The Burst When Using The Crimson Witch Set

Going back to the Crimson Witch set, it also demands control and expert maneuvering from Diluc players. Because using Dawn before you activate Crimson Witch's 4-piece bonus trigger means lower damage.

That's why setting up Dawn for big numbers always pays. This requires more patience than usual. You'll have to do Searing Onslaught first then switch to another character for their cryo or hydro application. Only then can you switch back to Diluc for Dawn. Doing that within 10 seconds without being interrupted takes a bit of practice. The payoff is worth it and you'll finally be able to brag about that 100K+ damage you did with Diluc.

Maximize Blessing Of Phoenix With Normal Attacks

Are some enemies still standing even after Dawn? Well, thankfully, Diluc also has the perfect talent for stragglers and that's Dawn's pyro infusion. This pyro infusion is further enhanced by the Blessing of the Phoenix passive.

We mentioned earlier that physical damage on Diluc means lower DPS, right? Well, this is the primary way to avoid dealing physical damage and deal pyro damage instead. Off you go now, make Diluc's father proud by being a rich guy who burns everything down.
