When it came out back in September 2020, Genshin Impact took the world by storm. Initially considered nothing more than a free-to-play Breath of the Wild clone, players and game reviewers alike have warmed up to its vast open world, addictive gameplay loops, and gacha features. The developers are also doing a great job in terms of supporting the game with frequent updates, and a roadmap for Genshin Impact's future development looks very promising.
Players looking to level up their characters will soon find out that some of the most important aspects of the game are frequent boss battles. These encounters yield rewards required to ascend each character to a higher level range. Depending on their Elemental specialization and other factors, each Genshin Impact character needs different ascension materials that get dropped by bosses. This is why it is crucial for players to frequently engage with all the bosses present in the game, and have a party setup that will make the fight as smooth and straightforward as possible.
Updated March 15, 2023, by Nahda Nabiilah: The ever-increasing number of characters in Genshin Impact is always accompanied by new bosses that provide the said characters' ascension materials. In general, the rule of thumb is that every new area would have at least one new boss. This pattern can be seen even as far as version 1.5, where the Cryo Hypostasis was added as a boss in Genshin Impact's 1.2 Dragonspine. Since the map of Teyvat is slowly expanding, it's no surprise that there are plenty more of these elite enemies in the open-world. Therefore, this article is updated to include short tips on how players can easily defeat each of the bosses.
22 Setekh Wenut
- Enemy's Weakness: Ranged hitter or large AoE hit
- Main DPS: Tighnari
- Support: Raiden Shogun, Kujou Sara, Yae Miko
- Healer: None
Like the Ruin Serpent, the Setekh Wenut also spends its time underground, so it's best to not use units that rely on Elemental Burst like Xiao or Itto. The boss can be stunned by exploding the Windbite Bullets it summons. When the prompt appears, use Cryo, Hydro, Pyro, or Electro to hit the Bullets. For this task, players can either use a ranged-unit like Ganyu or Kujou Sara, or use characters that have a large AoE, like Raiden Shogun's Burst.
21 Dendro Hypostasis
- Enemy's Weakness: Dendro and Electro
- Main DPS: Raiden Shogun
- Support: Kujou Sara, Nahida
- Healer: Kuki Shinobu
Once its HP is low, the Dendro Hypostasis will attempt to revive itself. To stop this, players must hit the wilted plant with Dendro to revive it, then use Electro to activate it. It's possible to just hit the plant with Dendro, but the process will be much faster with Electro. Due to the need for a Dendro hit, it's best to use Nahida as Catalyst users can manipulate Element on their basic attack.
20 Algorithm of Semi-Intransient Matrix of Overseer Network
- Enemy's Weakness: Quicken and Electro
- Main DPS: Raiden Shogun
- Support: Nahida, Kujou Sara, Yae Miko
- Healer: None
The best way to beat the ASIMON is by utilizing the Quicken reaction. Raiden Shogun and Nahida are a great pair, especially if the two reach their C2. To beat the boss easily, once it turns invisible, players should look for its location and hit it with a Quicken reaction. If the enemy has a Quicken debuff, a visual cue of "electricity" will remain on the invisible boss, making it easier to find. Yae Miko's Fox Turret would often auto-aim at the invisible foe.
19 Aeonblight Drake
- Enemy's Weakness: One weak point on the head and two on the wings
- Main DPS: Nahida
- Support: Yelan, Nilou
- Healer: Yaoyao
Although often underestimated, Nilou Bloom team is actually immensely powerful and can beat the Aeonblight Drake before it even tries to fly. However, if for some reason players manage to do this feat, then it's recommended to bring a ranged unit to shoot the boss' weak point. This will cause the machine to fall from its flying state.
18 Jadeplume Terrorshroom
- Enemy's Weakness: None, but players can use either Pyro or Electro to weaken the boss
- Main DPS: Hu Tao or Raiden Shogun
- Support: Xingqiu, Xiangling, Bennett
- Healer: Bennett
There are generally three methods players can beat the Jadeplume Terrorshroom:
- Use Pyro to scorch the boss: The boss will spawn three smaller shrooms, which are not deadly but can be annoying
- Use Electro to hype the boss: The boss will be extremely powerful but will be stunned after performing a few attacks
- Don't use Pyro or Electro: The boss will remain in a normal state; deal damage normally to beat it.
17 Electro Regisvine
- Enemy's Weakness: Pyro, Cryo, and Dendro attack
- Main DPS: Ganyu, Tighnari, or Yoimiya
- Support: Zhongli
- Healer: Bennett
Electro Regisvine's weak point will start on the head, so it's best to bring a ranged character like Ganyu, Tighnari, or Yoimiya. The boss will also spawn a stamen on the battlefield each time it generates its weak point, which should be destroyed via an Elemental reaction. If the stamen isn't removed, once the boss moves its weak point, the two stamens will meet and create a deadly explosion.
16 Ruin Serpent
- Enemy's Weakness: Having surrounding Oozing Concretions removed while it's drawing power from it
- Main DPS: Non-Physical Ranged Character
- Support: Any
- Healer: Any
Ruin Serpent would spend a lot of time buried underground, so it's best to not use characters that require running around to reach the enemy. Players can use DPS like Ganyu or Tighnari for this job. Some sample team comps include Ganyu + Shenhe + Kazuha + Bennett or Fischl + Tighnari + Kujou Sara + Raiden Shogun.
The boss can be defeated without any special method, but if it ever tries to draw power from surrounding Oozing Concretions, players should use their Lumenstone Adjuvant to remove the filth, which will stun the boss.
15 Coral Defenders (Bathysmal Vishap Herd)
- Enemy's Weakness: None
- Main DPS: Hu Tao
- Support: Xingqiu, Yelan, or Zhongli
- Healer: Diona
The Coral Defender comes in pair, and they don't really have a weakness. Nevertheless, there are some things players can keep in mind before jumping into a fight with them:
- The boss would jump after finishing its first move at the beginning of the battle, so make sure to not waste Elemental Burst
- One of the Vishap would jump on the wall and support the other enemy from afar. Destroy the wall using heavy hits to disable the Vishap
- If one Vishap is defeated, the two will connect in the middle and shoot lasers. Be careful of this hit and use the opportunity to attack the other Vishap by going to the middle
14 Golden Wolflord
- Enemy's Weakness: Geo attack
- Main DPS: Ningguang
- Support: Xingqiu and Yelan or Zhongli
- Healer: Barbara
The key to defeating Golden Wolflord is having a Geo unit to defeat its Rifthound Skulls, which will remove the boss's shield. Any Element can do this job, but Geo is the most effective.
For DPS, Travelers need units that can do ranged attacks. Golden Wolflord will constantly fly out of melee reach, so a bow user like Ganyu or Catalyst unit like Ningguang is the best option. Other than that, players will also want a dedicated healer to deal with the Corrosion debuff. Barbara is amazing for this job.
13 Thunder Manifestation
- Enemy's Weakness: None
- Main DPS: Ganyu
- Support: Zhongli
- Healer: Diona
Just like the Golden Wolflord, this Electro boss is also very jumpy. So for main DPS, players should opt for either bow or catalyst character.
This boss constantly deals large Electro damage when it's enraged, so a shielder like Zhongli will go a long way. Meanwhile, for healers, players should avoid characters that apply Elements. For example, Barbara will cause Travelers to be Electro-Charged, while Bennett's Pyro self-application may cause constant Overload. Diona, on the other hand, is the safest healer for this boss.
12 Perpetual Mechanical Array
- Enemy's Weakness: None
- Main DPS: Hu Tao
- Support: Xingqiu, Yelan, Zhongli
- Healer: None
For Perpetual Mechanical Array, the best strategy is brute force. After lowering the boss's HP, it will enter an invulnerable phase during which four different Automatons will spawn. One of them will have a golden ring on them. This enemy is the one Travelers need to defeat.
After destroying the marked Automaton, Perpetual Mechanical Array will enter a stunned phase. It's the most vulnerable at this time, so players should hit it with everything they have.
11 Maguu Kenki
- Enemy's Weakness: None
- Main DPS: Hu Tao
- Support: Xingqiu, Zhongli
- Healer: Any
Maguu Kenki is one of the most annoying bosses as it's filled with unclear i-frame. This means that when casting some of his skills, this boss will be invulnerable. The first step to defeating the machine is knowing when its i-frame is.
This boss has the tendency to parry when being hit with ranged attacks, meaning that melee units will work better against it. A combination of Hu Tao and Xingqiu can easily pierce through the boss's HP while maintaining a close distance.
10 Cryo Hypostasis
- Enemy's Weakness: Charged attack
- Main DPS: Hu Tao
- Support: Xiangling
- Healer: Diona
When it comes to this boss, Hu Tao can easily deal Melt damage when attacking Cryo Hypostasis' core. This also makes Xiangling an excellent sub-DPS. As for Diona, her Cryo shield is super effective against Cryo attacks. The Kätzlein will also double as a healer whenever necessary.
After entering the Glacial Shield phase, the enemy will continuously throw Frostfruits all over the field. Players have to roll these fruits to the boss by using Charged attack.
9 Hydro Hypostasis
- Enemy's Weakness: Cryo or Dendro against the small Slimes
- Main DPS: Hu Tao
- Support: Ayaka, Xiangling
- Healer: Yaoyao
Living up to the Hydro image, this boss also has little healers to aid it in battle. These minions take the form of Slimes, and will constantly spawn in battle. Failure to handle them will cause the boss to continuously heal. Players can destroy the Slimes with various Elemental reactions, but Frozen and Bloom are the most effective. A character like Ayaka or Nahida is the best for this job.
8 Pyro Hypostasis
- Enemy's Weakness: Hydro attack
- Main DPS: Kokomi
- Support: Xingqiu, Yelan
- Healer: Zhongli
Unlike the typical Hypostasis, the Pyro version has a Pyro shield that needs to be broken before it will reveal its core. For this job, players should utilize Hydro catalyst characters like Barbara, Mona, or Kokomi. Pyro Hypostasis will also constantly spawn Fire Seeds that need to be destroyed with one Hydro attack.
A shielder like Zhongli or Thoma will be a tremendous help when shredding the boss's shield. Other than that, defeating the boss is the same drill as normal hypostasis.
7 Pyro Regisvine
- Enemy's Weakness: Hydro attack
- Main DPS: Tartaglia (Childe)
- Support: Sucrose, Mona
- Healer: Bennett
This fiery plant is a formidable boss, mainly due to its ability to fire targeted missiles at the players right from the start of the battle. The most effective Element combination to use with Pyro Regisvine is Hydro+Cryo, but certain characters can significantly boost your chances of winning quickly, regardless of their Element. This is why Bennett, despite being a Pyro character, is a vital member of the party for this boss. His Elemental Burst grants all party members an ATK bonus (provided that their health is above 70%), making Tartaglia's ranged Hydro attacks all the more devastating.
6 Cryo Regisvine
- Enemy's Weakness: Pyro attack
- Main DPS: Hu Tao
- Support: Zhongli, Xingqiu, Yelan
- Healer: None
The Cryo Regisvine is usually the first boss many Genshin Impact players come across. It is located near Mondstadt, south of the Thousand Winds Temple. There are many ways to go about fighting it, but the most effective is using a Pyro unit.
As long as players have enough Pyro to destroy the boss' core, the entire battle should be easy, so people can use characters like Xiangling or Hu Tao. Afterward, simply dish as much damage as possible once the boss falls.
5 Oceanid
- Enemy's Weakness: None
- Main DPS: Ganyu
- Support: Fischl, Shenhe
- Healer: Qiqi
The Oceanid is a Genshin Impact foe that is fundamentally different from all the other bosses in the game. Instead of outright attacking the players, this freaky creature relies on summoning water creatures to deal with the threat. The Oceanid itself will stay away from combat, and its HP will drop as the player defeats the ever-increasing hordes of Hydro creatures.
Players should bring a ranged character to beat the Oceanid's Hawk Mimic as without one, it'll be difficult to hit the birds. For this job, players can either use Ganyu to permafreeze the entire fight or use Fischl and cooperate with her ranged hit and Oz's.
4 Geo Hypostasis
- Enemy's Weakness: Heavy attack (Claymore, Geo, explosion)
- Main DPS: Ganyu
- Support: Zhongli, Shenhe
- Healer: Bennett
Geo Hypostasis in Genshin Impact can be defeated by destroying the three Pillars they summon once they reach critical HP. Throughout the fight, the boss will stay on top of the stone pillars, so players should either bring characters that can easily destroy the pillar or ranged units. The structure can be destroyed by heavy blunt hints, which are available from Claymore, explosion, or Geo.
The best way to beat this boss is by using Ganyu to hit it without destroying the pillars; use Zhongli to shield and Bennett to buff for faster completion. Afterward, during the boss' revival attempt, players can use Zhongli's hold Skill to immediately destroy two out of three Stone Pillars the boss summons. The final Pillar can be destroyed by either Zhongli's Burst or Shenhe/Bennett with their melee weapon.
3 Electro Hypostasis
- Enemy's Weakness: Pyro or Cryo attack
- Main DPS: Ganyu, Ayaka, or Hu Tao
- Support: Xingqiu, Bennett, Xiangling
- Healer: Qiqi
Once the Electro Hypostasis is low HP, the boss will summon three Electro crystals. To beat the boss, these Crystals must be destroyed with an Elemental reaction. The most effective Element for this task is Cryo, Pyro, and Dendro, but a more neutral Element like Geo and Anemo works too.
Therefore, the main DPS should be someone like Ganyu, Ayaka, Hu Tao, or Tighnari, while the support should be Bennett or Xiangling to help destroy the Electro Crystals.
