Spiral Abyss is currently the only end-game content in Genshin Impact. In this challenge, players can test the growth of their characters twice a month. The first Abyss starts on the 1st of every month, while the second phase begins on the 16th. In every phase, players have to adjust to a new set of buffs. The buff is usually catered to put the featured 5-Star characters in an advantage, making it easier for players who pull in the current banner.

Occasionally, the debuff and enemies are also rotated. This means travelers have to constantly adjust their strategy to finish the challenge with full stars. However, some characters in Genshin Impact can be used in any scenario. These are some examples.

Updated December 21, 2021 by Nahda Nabiilah: Genshin Impact continuously brings new challenges for players to face. One of the most infamous features in the game is the Spiral Abyss. Many claim that this domain is pay-to-win content. While it's true that Genshin Impact is far easier with premium loot, F2P can clear every challenge too, if they did things right.

In Version 2.2, Travelers will meet a new enemy, the Rifthounds. These creatures will apply a certain debuff that requires a specific counter. Therefore, to make their journey easier, here are some characters players should bring to the Spiral Abyss.

13 Kokomi

Kokomi under the sea

Sangonomiya Kokomi was previously deemed as underwhelming. As a healer, the Watatsumi Priestess does her job perfectly. But as a sub-DPS, she's certainly lacking. Because of this, many players choose to stick with Barbara. The Mondstadt Idol is much easier to use, and also takes less field time than Kokomi.

However, thanks to the Ocean-Hued Clam Artifact in Genshin Impact, Sangonomiya Kokomi can now be a brilliant healer and a decent off-field damage dealer at the same time. When her Elemental Burst is active, she can also deal greater damage on-field.

Not only that, but because the Rifthound monsters require a healer to counter, Kokomi becomes an even more popular choice in the Spiral Abyss.

12 Sucrose

Genshin Impact sucrose

Before Kazuha's existence in Genshin Impact, Sucrose was the most adored Anemo user. She's extremely handy to Crowd Control small enemies, and she can also provide brilliant buff and utilities to the team.

If Travelers stack as much Elemental Mastery as they can on Sucrose, then the alchemist will provide a major Elemental Mastery buff to her team as well. This is an amazing addition for players who enjoy playing with Elemental Reactions. Not only that, but if Sucrose is using 4-Viridescent Venerer, she will deal great damage while reducing the enemy's Elemental Resistance at the same time.

11 Ayaka

ayaka

Since her release in Genshin Impact 2.0, Ayaka has successfully gained the players' favor. Whether it's for the main DPS or sub-DPS role, Travelers will find that the Cryo Princess is a highly reliable damage dealer.

Her ease of use and flexibility allows Ayaka to be a popular choice in the Spiral Abyss. To play her, players simply have to equip Ayaka with 4-Blizzard Strayers Artifact. From there, Miss Kamisato will no longer require Critical Rate, so people can focus solely on Critical Damage.

As for her team compositions, most players opt for the Morgana Comp (Permafreeze Comp). Usually, Ganyu is the Cryo DPS in this party. But for those who don't have the archer, then Ayaka is an excellent alternative.

10 Raiden Shogun

Raiden-Shogun-1

Raiden Shogun had her fair share of drama on her banner. Most people considered her weak since Electro suffers due to its weak reactions. However, the Electro Archon quickly proved herself to be one of the most useful characters a player can own.

Baal can apply Electro without breaking a sweat or being on the field. Her Elemental Skill also provides a decent damage buff for the team's (and her own) Elemental Burst. When her Burst is activated, she deals great damage while restoring Energy to the whole party.

9 Venti

venti in genshin impact

Other than top-tier crowd control, Venti is also an amazing damage support and battery. For damage support, the Anemo Archon can be built on four Viridescent Venerer to reduce the enemies' Elemental resistance. As for battery, if his Elemental Burst absorbs an Element, the Bard will grant 15 Energy to all characters that have the matching Element.

Venti used to be the best character for Spiral Abyss. However, his viability is reduced with the release of new enemies. This is because the new foes are mostly unaffected by Venti's crowd control. Despite all that, the Archon is still a wonderful choice for chambers that contain a lot of smaller enemies.

8 Xiangling

Xiangling

Xiangling is one of the most versatile supports in Genshin Impact. Previously, lack of Energy was her biggest problem. But, with the release of The Catch and Emblem of Severed Fate, the Liyue Chef is now more viable than ever.

Xiangling provides great damage and an amazing Pyro application. If players own her constellations, she becomes one of the best support for Pyro DPS, where she offers Pyro resistance reduction, minor attack buff, and Pyro damage buff. The Culinary Superstar earns her spot in the top 10 thanks to all that.

7 Xiao

Xiao looking at the lanterns

The main source for Xiao's damage comes from his Elemental Burst. In the Vigilant Yaksha's state, Xiao's polearm is infused with Anemo. It also allows him to jump very high, granting him easy access to Plunge Attacks.

Of course, the Adeptus has some weaknesses too. When the state is active, Xiao continuously loses some of his HP. Furthermore, he also loses the ability to generate Elemental particles through his Elemental Skill. This part reduces the unit's flexibility in team composition. This is why Xiao didn't make it to the top 5.

6 Bennett

Bennett

It's not unexpected that Bennett is included in this list. Ever since players discovered that Benny grants massive attack buff, he has been inseparable from a lot of parties. He's not the best when it comes to damage, but he's certainly an S-Tier support.

Other than the commonly known attack buff, healing, and Pyro resonance, Bennett also offers decent battery, Pyro application, and handy cleansing.

The Adventurer is currently one of the best pairs with Kazuha. But, the Samurai is also why Bennett is pushed down on the list.

5 Ganyu

Ganyu-1

Ganyu is arguably the best DPS in Genshin Impact. She deals significant damage in a large AoE on every Charged Attack. Furthermore, Ganyu also has an Elemental Skill that can mildly protect her and an Elemental Burst that has 100% uptime.

Unfortunately, even with all this, Ganyu often has a problem when facing an enemy that moves constantly. Therefore, if players are not the best archer, then they should consider using another character instead. Because the recent enemies are very jumpy, Ganyu has to settle with the 5th rank.

4 Hu Tao

Hu-Tao playing with her ghost

The Pyro Polearm character is often compared to Ganyu. While this unit lacks AoE, she can deal immense single-target damage. Just like Xiao, Hu Tao's kit also forces her to consume her HP. However, unlike the Vigilant Yaksha, Director Hu can heal herself with her Elemental Burst.

Hu Tao's melee attack requires her to be close to enemies, so it's easier for the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor Director to chase jumpy enemies. While this places Hu Tao above Ganyu, she also has needs that can be covered by the top two characters.

3 Kazuha

Kazuha

Upon release, players failed to see Kazuha's full potential. Fortunately, people realized what this unit can do near the end of his banner. The Samurai's presence is why players stop using Venti. This is because he's useful in more scenarios.

Unlike Venti, Kazuha is useful against larger enemies. Furthermore, he also provides an amazing damage buff, shifting Sucrose from being the best Anemo support.

Due to his higher flexibility and damage potential, the Wandering Samurai becomes the best Anemo character in the Spiral Abyss. However, he still fails to take the top spot.

2 Xingqiu

Xingqiu

Xingqiu is currently one of the most used support in Genshin Impact. One year ago, Xingqiu was not that widely popular. However, ever since Hu Tao's release in 1.3, many players started to discover the Guhua Disciple's true potential.

This unit provides a decent sustain with his Elemental Skill. It protects and heals the active character and affects any enemy it touches with Hydro. Normally, his Elemental Skill will break when players take damage. But, when his Elemental Burst is active, Xingqiu's Rain Swords will continuously block damage without breaking. While this makes Xingqiu an amazing defender, there's still someone better.

1 Zhongli

Zhongli during his Story Quest Cutscene

Zhongli is an amazing support, even before his buff. The Geo Archon can create a shield that is always active, trivializing most content in the game, including the Spiral Abyss. With Zhongli's shield, the nearby enemy's resistance will always be lowered. Furthermore, players no longer have to worry about dodging, allowing the party to fully focus on dealing damage.

Even without the rest of his kit, his shield alone will make Zhongli a popular choice in the Spiral Abyss. His game-breaking shield is way too useful to be ignored.

Genshin Impact is now available on mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
