Since its highly-anticipated release in September of 2020, Genshin Impact has been a massive success for Chinese studio MiHoYo. The title has grown from its roots and people referring to the game as a clone of Breath of the Wild into one of the most successful gacha games in the industry today. A major part of the game's success is due to its unique and recognizable cast of characters and a popular resource site for the game shows off which of these characters propelled its success the most.

Genshin Impact officially celebrates the one-year anniversary of its launch on September 28 and the game has grown significantly since its humble beginnings. The game's 2.0 update in July saw the long-awaited addition of the Japan-themed Inazuma region and some of Inazuma's characters have been among the most anticipated additions to the game. Players have known about Kamisato Ayaka since the game's closed beta tests and the recently released Raiden Shogun plays a major role in Inazuma's story. Fans were excited to see these characters added and a chart from popular resource website GenshinLab shows that fact.

The animated chart from GenshinLab shows the progression of Genshin Impact's banners since the game's release and the sales each character has generated in the Chinese market, measured in Chinese Yuans. The chart shows the overwhelming success of Raiden Shogun's banner earning the company over 33 million yuans (approximately 5.1 million U.S. dollars). Raiden Shogun became the first character to surpass the sales of the two character featured in the game's launch patch, Venti and Klee.

The chart is constantly updated and tracks daily sales for each banner in the game's history as well as tracking re-run banners like those for Venti and Zhongli. The top half of the chart shows off some clear trends when looking at the characters who have seen the most success. Characters debuting in the first half of their patch tend to be more successful than their second-half counterparts with clear examples in Raiden Shogun, Ayaka, and Xiao (though there are exceptions in Zhongli and Ganyu). Characters released around major patches like Venti on launch and Ayaka with Inazuma's debut also tend to be more successful than their counterparts.

As Genshin Impact closes in on its first anniversary, the game celebrates a year of incredible success for the Honkai Impact 3rd developer MiHoYo. The recent addition of Inazuma has been a huge success for the open-world action RPG and fan favorite characters from the region like Yae Miko and Tohma are rumored to be releasing soon. Genshin Impact has established its position within the gaming industry over its first year of life and looks to remain successful into the future.

Genshin Impact is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is currently in development with no confirmed release date.
