The Pokemon Company is no stranger to letting established brands use the Pokemon IP for partnerships in merchandise and products. For example, recent leaks pointed to Pokemon and Toyota teaming up to create some Pikachu-themed car for consumers to purchase.

Now, another Pokemon-themed collaboration has just been announced centering around breakfast cereal. The consumer foods manufacturing company General Mills announced a Pokemon-themed breakfast cereal among 15 other new breakfast cereal options.

General Mills announced its brand new Pokemon breakfast cereal featuring the series’ iconic mascot front and center on the box. The cereal is a berry-flavored cereal with Pikachu-themed marshmallows. Nintendo has partnered with other cereal brands in the past, such as Kellog’s Super Mario-themed cereal that included Amiibo support on the actual cereal box. Alongside General Mills’ new Pokemon breakfast cereal, the company announced a new Dunkaroos cereal, as well as new flavors for Cinnamon Toast Crunch among other things.

Unfortunately, it’s unclear if this Pokemon-branded cereal will have any goodies inside the box for consumers to enjoy. The promotional images that General Mills has released for the Pokemon cereal don’t indicate any added goods within the box. Including some sort of prize inside the box is common practice for many branded cereals that tie in to other properties. For example, Minecraft-themed cereal put codes for in-game items in cereal boxes for players to redeem and enjoy. Hopefully, this Pikachu-themed cereal will have some sort of goodies for consumers other than its overall appearance.

This isn’t the first time that the Pokemon Company has partnered with a company to create sugary treats for consumers. Earlier this summer, Pokemon partnered with Baskin-Robbins in Japan to create a variety of Pokemon-themed ice cream treats. The presentation of the entire ice cream treat set was incredibly elaborate, including Pokeball shaped containers and packaging with unique artwork. While the General Mills Pikachu cereal doesn’t seem to be on quite the same level, it’s still nice to see the collaboration regardless.

While it’s always cool to see the company continue to let other brands experiment with their property, The Pokemon Company has a ton of its own official merch that it sells through various locations and storefronts. Recently, The Pokemon Company revealed a Ditto sofa featuring the pink shape-shifting Pokemon’s iconic design. The Ditto sofa is just another example of the Pokemon Company creating some wild official merchandise. While The Pokemon Company is able to create more outlandish pieces of official merch with the Pokemon franchise, it seems like it prefers to have companies like General Mills play it a bit safer with its Pokemon-themed products.
