The lead designer for the first three Gears of War games, Cliff Bleszinski, has had an interesting career. After finishing up with the acclaimed Gears of War franchise, Bleszinski went on a short hiatus before returning with his studio Boss Key Productions. It appears that while this production company was developing its first title, Bleszinski entered some very interesting talks with 20th Century Fox.

While Boss Key Productions was producing LawBreakers, plans for future games from the studio were already in motion. LawBreakers was a solid title and it is unsurprising that the studio behind it, with the successful history of its founder, was negotiating offers with established franchises. However, the debut title wasn't a huge financial success and while there are theories to why LawBreakers wasn't a triumph, there were also huge industry changes happening at the same time.

Bleszinski was in the process of negotiating an Alien game that focused on Newt and featured Ripley. While there have been plenty of Alien projects that never came to fruition, many would have liked to have seen how the action that Bleszinski is known for would have translated to the cinematic universe. Unfortunately, the project was cancelled in 2017 as Fox was deep in discussions about being absorbed by Disney. With this move, many of Fox's projects were put on hold indefinitely, yet in this case the title may never have been completed.

Boss Key Productions has shut down and Bleszinski has once again taken a step back from gaming. Despite this failed venture, there seem to be more Alien games in development and fans will be eager to see what direction these titles take. Whether a new title can hit the heights of Alien: Isolation remains to be seen, but it seems that the thriller and horror focus pleased many fans. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see when Bleszinski will resurface and for what project.

Cliff Bleszinski has been working on games since he was a teenager and has been a huge part of some incredible games. Many within the industry would welcome him back with open arms and according to his Twitter, he has previously been involved in discussions over some very memorable titles. Bleszinski said he had one or two more games left in him before the release of LawBreakers and many will hope that he meant two.
