At the Game Developers Conference 2010, a certain Unreal Engine tech demo was leaked that will interest all Gears of War fans: a 42 second clip potentially from Gears of War 3, or at least showing off its new graphics engine. The header image comes straight from the new Unreal engine that Epic Games is working with.

The stuff we're all really interested in is how the demo contains potentially juicy Gears of War 3 information! The tech demo shows a drastic change of scenery from Gears' usual style (urban wreckage, locust caves) and takes place in a rainy, mud-ridden forest. Unfortunately there isn't a high definition version of the demo, it does seem to be a leak after all, but you can take a look at it after the jump:

Quipped Epic Games' Vice President Mark Rein:

One day we'll show you what we're doing with this. When you see what we're doing with this, it's going to blow your mind.

Rein seems pretty confident in the product, and mentioned that this was just programmer's art; the real, finished product would be more polished. After the jungle video, they moved on to display a block of mercury that warbled fluidly and smoothly under the engine. Two years ago, they had done a similar display for Gears of War 2 that featured a block of flesh that gushed gore everywhere as it was shot to show the blood system.

This scene was another part of Epic's Unreal Engine display, though not Gears-related.

The jungle demo was intended to display how the engine can efficiently render jungle vines, wooden tracks and glistening wet details. In another tech demo, an Epic engineer reportedly zipped through a city scene to show how quickly the engine can smoothly render many detailed, urban structures regardless of structure distance.

What do you think, readers? Excited about the potential graphics? Do you think Gears of War 3 may take Marcus and the Gears (what a great band name) to the jungle?
