The announcement of Gears Tactics at E3 2018 was met with some confusion. Gears of War is a definitive console experience, after all, and the XCOM-style gameplay of Gears Tactics is similarly a definitive PC experience. Nevertheless, Microsoft moved forward with it as a PC exclusive. Now, it seems, plans may have changed as Gears Tactics is also confirmed for Xbox.

Speaking with GameSpot, Microsoft publishing design director Tyler Bielman confirmed the upcoming tactical game's coming to Xbox One. Plans have even been in the works since 2019, but The Coalition has kept silent on the subject until it was further along.

No further details about Gears Tactics on Xbox One are available, however. While Bielman says "the console version is incoming," no release date is as-yet available. That may mean that Gears Tactics will be coming to Xbox Series X as well, though that's perhaps too early of an assumption.

For now, The Coalition and partner Splash Damage remain focused on the development of Gears Tactics for PC. Gears Tactics remains on-schedule to launch in late April. That's not necessarily guaranteed, whoever. Microsoft has noted that its studios are following work from home policies amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It's possible that the development of Gears Tactics, or any game for that matter, might be impacted.

Gears Tactics releases April 28 on PC, and an Xbox One version is also in development.
