Watch the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Opening Cinematic

Remakes and remasters have become a massive trend during the jump to current-gen hardware, and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Setting aside the backward compatibility coming to Xbox One later this year, Microsoft has yet to yield in its quest to provide consumers with the enhanced, albeit existing, experiences that they seem most vocal for – cue Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.

Toting itself as much more than just a remaster, some significant enhancements are said to have been implemented into the final product that’ll provide fans with a more modern take on the Xbox 360 classic. Whether that pertains to unlocking new skins in multiplayer or the gameplay tweaks and polish added to the campaign, developer The Coalition has confirmed that it has put the finishing touches on Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.

Now that the game is off to the presses to prepare for its release in August, those trying to go the all-digital route are now able to pre-install the game on their Xbox One. Best of all, there are two variants of the title that fans can sink their hard-earned dollars into if they feel so obliged. There’s expectedly a price variation between the two versions, but one comes with quite a few more digital goodies for dedicated Gearsheads.

Microsoft has confirmed that the standard Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is now available for pre-order on the Xbox Marketplace for $39.99 USD, and those that lock in their purchase prior to release will receive Adam Fenix/Civilian Anya multiplayer skins and an Animated Imulsion Weapon Skin.

Meanwhile, those that invest in the Deluxe Edition for $59.99 USD will receive the aforementioned in-game items, as well as the Deluxe Weapon Skin Pack (featuring 10 different Animated Weapon Skins and 36 standard Weapon Skins) and Civilian Marcus Fenix/Aaron Griffin multiplayer characters.

All in all, it seems like a rather fair deal for everything that comes included in the game. Although the same purchasing options aren’t currently available for those that prefer a mouse and keyboard – as Gears of War: Ultimate Edition won’t be made available on PC until after it launches for Xbox One – it’s likely that they too will have similar options when the game becomes available.
