Microsoft announces that two new maps have been added to Gears of War 4 multiplayer along with a brand new Valentine’s Day event kicking off later this week.
Though it originally released last October, Gears of War 4 has received a steady flow of post-launch support and content thanks to the efforts of The Coalition. Fans have been well aware of the downloadable content schedule for some time now, but the developer has not been shy to also add content through a number of free updates typically centered around holidays like the ugly sweater and snowball cannons for Gearsmas. With February finally here, the developer now has its sights on the most romantic holiday of the year along with its unofficial mascot, Cupid.
Starting on February 10, Gears of War 4 is kicking off a week of Valentines themed content for players to participate in. The celebration plans to add new Gear Packs to earn, daily Valentines themed bounties to complete, and a new character that players will be able to craft. Not only that, a special Torque Bow Tag game mode is being added and while the developer has yet to officially detail the mode, a Cupid style twist has been teased. Expect to see much more on this revealed sometime later this week.
Roses are red, violets are blue, Torque Bows for me, and Torque tags for you!
In addition to the Valentine’s Day updates, The Coalition is also adding a new set of maps to the online experience as per their post-launch downloadable content schedule. The first map, known as Impact Dark, is actually based on a launch map for Gears 4. Not only is this map now set during the nighttime, but a fog has settled over the battlefield completely reducing player visibility. The Coalition has also added a weapon swap twist to further alter player expectations. Each weapon swap has been changed, so snipers are replaced by Boltoks, the new Dropshot weapon replaces Torque/EMBAR and an Overkill shotgun sits in for Incendiaries.
The final new map is called War Machine, originally seen in the original Gears of War, though the location has moved from a train station to a newly established COG village. Both maps are available now within the Developer Playlist for Season Pass owners and work with Team Deathmatch, Guaridan, and King of the Hill matches. Better yet, playing these maps grants Double XP and 20% bonus credits.
These updates join the ranks of the long list of already released content such as characters inspired by the rap group, Run The Jewels, additional legacy maps, and other content like the 10th anniversary content pack. A recent title update made a number of substantial tweaks to improve the online quality of life play as well including additional spectator mode features, new gear Pack cards, and new tools to combat rage quitting during matches.
