Gears of War 4 Update Fixes Some Multiplayer Problems

Video game developer The Coalition releases an update for the Xbox One version of Gears of War 4 that fixes some of the title's persistent multiplayer problems.

Ever since the official release of Gears of War 4 earlier this week, the third-person shooter's Xbox One players have been encountering stuttering at the beginning of its multiplayer matches, in addition to when they take part of long, continuous sessions. Upon discovering this, Gears of War 4's developer The Coalition updated the title's list of known issues and included an odd workaround for the "hitching" problem that prompted players to "Open four other games (allow them to load past the initial splash screen) and then load Gears of War 4."

Now, though, The Coalition has released a 218 MB patch for Gears of War 4 that ought to squash this particular "hitching" bug, as well as other multiplayer gameplay problems on Xbox One once and for all, undoubtedly delighting fans who no longer have to utilize the bizarre workaround described above. That said, the game's PC version did not have to receive the update, as it did not experience the problem.

Regarding the latest patch for Gears of War 4, the director of community for the game series, Adam Fletcher said, "This will help iron out an user still experiencing this that has not done any of the workarounds we posted about the other day." As far as remaining issues such as the lengthy matchmaking times and the game not saving changes made to audio settings, The Coalition declared that work is still being done in order to solve such problems.

Furthermore, The Coalition stated that this specific Gears of War 4 update will temporarily disable offline LAN multiplayer crossplay between Xbox One and PC until the "next big large title update." Nevertheless, it's important to note that online crossplay has not been affected by the patch and can be played without any problems.

Beyond Gears of War 4's latest patch, fans can still play through the game's story campaign with relative ease. Speaking of which, for those who have yet to pick up the title, but are fans of the series, the fourth entry in the franchise establishes an adept narrative that sets up further inevitable entries, as evidenced in our review.

Taking all of this into consideration, it's good to see that The Coalition is addressing post-launch problems in Gears of War 4 so quickly. Of course, if this were a perfect world, video games in this day and age wouldn't require patches after their releases. Alas, humans and their creations aren't infallible, so at least the Gears of War 4 developers seem to be on top of the title's lingering issues.

Gears of War 4 is available now for PC and Xbox One.
