After launching last October, The Coalition has been keeping busy creating new content each and every month for its player base, all of it free thanks in large part to the microtransaction system put in place, similarly to what Halo 5: Guardians is doing as well. After a number of holiday themed events and content, this latest content drop for Gears of War 4 features two brand new maps, enhancements for Windows 10 users, and the return of Benjamin Carmine, who met his end during the events of Gears of War 2.
Known as Dawn and Security, Gears of War 4 players are getting their hands on two new maps starting tomorrow. Dawn is a brand new map, set in a scenic Outsider village build around an abandoned mining facility. According to The Coalition, Dawn combines two defensive structures at either end of the map, mixing tight corridors with open spaces, and a Dropshot spawn point that encourages risk it all type gameplay.
The second map this month, Security, is a re-imagining of the popular Gears of War 2 multiplayer map updated to support Gears of War 4 style gameplay and respawn based modes like team deathmatch. The map is now based around a COG depository, complete with stacks of gold bars perfect for makeshift cover along with defensive lasers that prevent access to certain areas until they’re deactivated after a player presses a nearby button.
While Windows 10 players who use multiple graphics card setups are also getting support with this update, the most exciting aspect to this announcement is that Benjamin Carmine is returning to the series, though not as fans may expect. Though the youngest Carmine met his untimely end in Gears of War 2, players have a shot to unlock Zombie Ben Carmine in Gears of War 4’s May Gear Packs. Fans will probably be happy to note that Zombie Ben comes complete with his missing lower torso innards as well.
This new content arrives in time for Season 1 of competitive multiplayer in Gears of War 4, similar to Overwatch, where players play a number of placement matches to determine their rank, and then try and climb the tiered ladder. Once the season wraps up, rewards are handed out based on the player’s ultimate rank with the ultimate price being the Diamond Weapon Skin set for top players.
Are you happy to see new content continuing to arrive for Gears of War 4? What other maps or characters are you hoping to see the team add at some point?
Gears of War 4 is available now on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC.
